This is what Appsumo is all about!
I am deeply impressed by the effort they put in to address issues and implement solutions. I want to point out a few key factors that made me decide to get this deal and recommending it.
Lifetime deals are risky. Licensed applications can be sustainable since it is mostly about waiving fees and not providing costly infrastructure. Deals that require storage and bandwidth will cost the provider. In many cases, it does make sense to spread the word and get some initial funding, so it makes sense to view early adopters as investors. If the business model is profitable the investors will earn. That is essentially the case here where we will end up getting more than we paid for. Icedrive seems to understand this and provides this deal because they value customer feedback that much. They have tried to make the most of every suggestion they have received so far.
Most lifetime storage deals won’t last either because the owners have been in it to make quick money or simply could not attract enough customers. To be successful a company must provide a lower price or a better product than the competition. A lot of providers make the mistake of trying to make it on price alone. These businesses end up being non-profitable, even more so since they try to beat providers who have much higher volumes and better margins.
Icedrive is different. They constantly try to improve their service. They also have an impressive roadmap with lots of features planned in addition to all the improvements already deployed while this campaign is still ongoing. They have addressed customer feedback and provided improvements almost instantly. I see a lot of similarities between the position Icedrive is now and where pCloud was a few years ago.
That is the closest comparison. It is not G Suite or Office 365. It is just cloud storage, but more importantly, what it does it does better. Some of the features that make Icedrive unique, especially privacy-wise, are things that some competitors will likely never have. On the contrary, the few things that Icedrive does not currently have such as selective sync are things that Icedrive will likely have implemented in a few months. They have shown that they are open to ideas and appreciative of customer feedback.
Is this the best cloud storage out there? The product is still under development. I will expect a lot of improvements over the next few months. You can wait another year but that will likely also cost more. Being an early adopter could be your chance to help shape the service you truly want. Lifetime storage deals are common, but true value is rare. It might take years before we see another provider like this. Icedrives $49 plan including encryption is comparable to pClouds for $300 and that is an indication of how good of a deal this is. Don’t choose a provider that is too big to care, choose one where your opinion matters. You can always enjoy it for 60 days and watch the value of this deal get even better as Icedrive improves.
