Great but sometimes really painful to learn
The fifth taco was eaten by issues with documentation, tutorials, and forum support, so four remain.
Disclaimer: before I purchased Ideta, I have never build a bot.
It's a very complex product with a lot of options and possibilities, and I was excited to dive in. After some tinkering, I was able to build and deploy my first web-based bot, so if you're not opposed to learning and figuring things out, you don't need any prior knowledge. If you're looking for a "for dummies" solution with everything plain and clear, Ideta is likely not for you.
Why? Because learning Ideta isn't frustration-free. It isn't about the learning curve but they information they offer for the users to learn.
The tutorials are annoying. They are either super-basic, looking like they were made for people who have to be told that to edit something they need to press an edit button or they address more challenging aspects of bots building in a general way that lacks any helpful details (like they're aimed at people who already know what they're doing and don't need help). The sound quality in the video tutorials is bad which doesn't help.
The documentation is outdated and the screenshots in it show different layouts and options than the app has available. The forums seem to have more up-to-date information, but some screenshots are of... the French version of the app. Communication on the forum also seems wonky: you ask about one thing, but they direct you to something else that is related but doesn't have the answer for the specific question you asked.
This makes me feel that while Ideta is a great product, its team still haven't adapted the international mindset and isn't used to working with the languages they officially offer (for example, sending a support ticket results in a message in French and French only, and they don't have separate support email for French and English).
How did I learn how to do the most things? By using their sample bots and by trial and error duplicating solutions that were used there. Not really ideal, since there's limit to such learning. I'd love a much better and detailed documentation, and I can learn everything by myself.
All in all, I'm satisfied with the purchase, but because of all of the above, I feel like I can't really give Ideta all five tacos.
