I struggle with balancing work and fun projects because often they fall into the same category.
I learn more in a programming language because I enjoy the learning. And then I stress out about quickly using it in a project because I see it's value to what I'm working on.

It moves from learning/relaxing time, into work time. This helps me see the difference better. Which leads to more enjoyable and better focused time.
