Q: What about for a newer website?
Can we have "fake" notifications?
I think this would be VERY important for a lot of users...

May 14, 2024A: Hey Bobin,
I am happy that you asked this question.
As a policy, we don't allow fake user uploads on our platform.
Although you can fill in some test signups that may work for you as social proof, but this will work really well if you have plans to grow the business.
I'd be happy and very much interested to hear about the growth story of your brand.
but fake notifications is something I won't be able to help you with.
Thanks!
Yes, exactly, please reply to this question.
Answered Already in the thread to bobin.
if required, can address separately as well.
Thanks!
I really do NOT want fake notifications, because then they mean absolutely nothing...

Then don't use them?
If visitors see fake reviews on other sites, they'll always assume that they are fake everywhere. Then they become 100% meaningless.

Then... don't use them?
It doesnt really make sense, if you do not want it you can opt to switch it off? Who will not want higher conversions?
Then you don't need social proof, you can just hire some freelancer to create simple Javascript script for you that randomly creates fake purchase information, it would cost you like 50$!
Me Neither!
Thank god that I have you as my support in this war against Fake social proof.
I was feeling alone and left out until I saw this comment of yours. :D
The best way is to get family and friends to start trials or make purchases using specially generated coupons so the purchases are heavily discounted or free. There's nothing fake about that and it does give you the help you need during launch phases. Also actually ask for an honest opinion from them in order to properly develop your products to be better. Never do fake.

No offense... but I'm not looking for business advice. lol
I've been in business for 19 years now. I was asking a software question as I might resell to new business owners.
If you're a hustler, it doesn't matter if it's fake or not - it's just money, no integrity needed /s
+1 on this!
[Insert smiley face here]
It's about getting more social proof by bumping up the number of visitors to your website by adding ficticious ones and bloating the count for example. There is nothing wrong with this strategy. I hope they add this feature too Bob
I mean it's not bad, but we don't do it.
It's awesome I think. But we don't want to go down that route for our product.
Thanks!
I'm glad to see a vendor who won't allow fake notifications. GOOD FOR YOU! And in the long run, you'll be more trusted and successful.
If you want fake notifications, there are plenty of other options.
I'm glad that there is a Sumoling that believes in our vision.
That makes two of us. :D

Thank you Kirti_Influence for keeping the integrity. Would not support you if you allowed dishonesty like that.

Totally in agreement w/ your vision and point of view w/ fake reviews.

I will be stacking 3 codes primarily BECAUSE you have integrity and do not allow fake reviews!
This is one way you can differentiate yourself from the competition, as many (if not all) of them allow fake reviews.
Anyone who wants fake data, if you're in US, you would be in violation of FTC regulation. Showing fake data basically means you're lying to consumers. That's deceptive marketing, just like fake Amazon reviews.
FTC just filed a lawsuit against company for fake Amazon reviews.
Most countries have laws against deceptive marketing and advertising, not just US.
Companies offering similar service as Influence that do offer fake data are start ups without proper legal counsel to tell them not to do it.
People trust start ups on here too much and assume they are legally compliant in your jurisdiction. They don't have proper legal counsel to be compliant internationally. Many start ups selling on AppSumo are not GDPR compliant.
Got to do your due diligence.
First of all, they have to find out you are using fake reviews.
Second, here in Germany, for this competitors have to send you a warning-letter (and also have to find out first) about this (and you have to pay attorney costs). In most cases, this ranges from $900-1,200. Even if I make $2,000 more due to this app, I would happily pay the "fine".
