Q: Has localisation been taken into account with Interviewer.

ai? I mean I would like if users could have smooth experience with local language. I guess you can write questions in any language you want, but I always see things like this that have mixed language (english + local language) not as professional as they probably should be. I don't mind making the end user localisation in-house as long as the app allows it.

Anycase, looks like a good deal!

Hello Sumo-ling,

We do have 4 languages (English, Spanish, Polish and Mandarin) in the account for managing candidate instructions. We have plans for launching German, French and Italian soon for the candidates. Could you advise which language were you keen on?

You can reach me at hello@interviewer.ai

Thank you.
Best,
Manoj

Hi Manoj,

The language I was thinking about is Finnish.

I don't know how much there is actual text in the UI that is shown the people who get interviewed, but wouldn't it be best if the client/end user could translate those UI texts by themselves? I don't see any issue in th end user UI being in English, but wouldn't it be cool if the end user would have ability to create custom translation(s) for the UI that the people who get interviewed will see? This is the way some other apps work. Obviously "official translation" is a good thing, but smartly designed custom translation feature would in my opinion make this tool so much better. Obviously there are things to consider, like if there's gazillion lines of text that need to be translated etc. But in a nutshell if custom translation would be possible, it would add some pace with clients who see currently any issue with Interview.io not being translated to their language. My guts tell that the issue is not with the end user UI, but with the the UI for who get interviewed. Perhaps there could be an ability to upload/download the translation in CSV as well. Then in some scenarios some clients might share their translation or something similiar. Or some company might send that CSV to a translator.

Anycase! 3 days to go. Have to see where I land! Tempting! ;)

Hello Sumo-ling,

Thats a great idea, however will involve lot of man-hour and we are currently in midst of a major UI UX upgrade. We will definitely add it our customer wish-list, however hard to commit on these as most of our clients are comfortable with our translations. Especially we have a lot of candidates using our Polish translation and we do not see a challenge.

Your point noted and will review it in future.

Thank you.
Best,
Manoj

Hi Manoj,

Thanks for your reply!

The thing that I'm a bit worried about (obviously not my call and just my opinion) is that a lot of stuff is "hard coded" into the app. For an example, I went through some reviews and in one of them mentioned that docs and some other attachments were allowed before, but now only PDFs. The reply to this review about this particular issue was that DOCs etc. brought up compatibility issues, which is why now only PDF is supported. This could have been easily solved by allowing the user to limit attachment types and, by default,t only PDF would be on. Hard coding something usually caters to one group of people while leaving the rest out. In this example, making the PDF default, while having some other options available through a setup menu, would have catered to a bigger audience. For example, someone allowing DOCs would decide for themselves if they want to work with compatibility issues.

When I talked about custom translation, I was thinking about languages that you dont currently have a translation to. The official translation by Interview.io should always be the preferred option when available. But imagine if UI language of the people being interviewed would had not been "hard coded". I guess it's not "hard coded" in the same way as some other stuff... But imagine if there was a menu where you could input your custom translation. This way for an example I could use this tool in Finnish language, perhaps years before the official translation comes out, if it ever comes out for Finnish. This type of thinking, when thinking about UI can have big impact (IMO) on the potential a particular app has per market/language. This is the way survey tools that I've used have worked. Where you can create your own translation to offer high quality experience instead of mixed language.

One other thing that I'm wondering is that a lot of texts the people getting interviewed will see is something the client can't change. This is worrying because I think it should be obvious that texts like this should be something the client can change themselves and if the Interview.io UI team does not figure things like this out without input, what else is missed now and in the future

When there's something you have not coded, and you can with little bit of extra time offer options instead of hard coded choices, your UI team should see the value in options that are valuable to the client instead of making a choice for the client that might cater only some of the people.

I understand that when something like being able to custom translate certain aspects of the UI has not been taken into consideration before the whole thing was put together, it would be hard to add something like this as an afterthought. But imagine how powerful this kind of feature would be. Now your basically limited to the languages that you offer, unless the client is prepared for not so professional mixed language experience.

Regardless of this, the deal is awesome!

Thank you so much for your detailed inputs.

Apologies for the delay in responding. I already sent it to my tech team and I hope they also find value in differentiating the way of coding.

Finnish language is not on our roadmap, but will explore the ways to add languages more easily as suggested. You can look out for our future releases in our roadmap document: https://trello.com/b/1wttgzch/interviewerai-product-roadmap

We will update it as we progress with our planned releases.

Thank you once again for your continuous support and your appreciation towards our product.

Cheers!
Best,
Manoj
