Once my favorite AppSumo deal—now only frustration
I was genuinely excited at first. The rapid stream of new features made me think this might be the best AppSumo purchase I’d ever made. That early excitement helped me overlook issues that were there from day one: weak lip-sync and a lot of API bugs (API a major reason I bought Tier 4). I stayed patient and, to their credit, a few bugs did get fixed over time.
But the recent changes have flipped the value proposition. The team introduced user limits after the fact, including weekly caps that make it easy to end the month with unused credits you simply lose if you didn’t happen to use the tool every single week. More recently, they’ve added a “one render at a time” restriction. Because each render can take a long time, this single-file queue wastes a huge amount of time.
The cumulative effect is that the product now feels throttled in ways that punish AppSumo customers. I can’t know the intent, but as a user it feels like friction designed to discourage using the credits I paid for. It worked on me: I’ve stopped trying to make this work and switched to a market-leading competitor on a monthly plan just to protect my time.
Bottom line: promising feature set undermined by retroactive limits. If the company wants to win back trust, they should remove the weekly caps and restore reasonable concurrency for renders.
PS: As of a few days ago, a new avatar type was introduced. While I fully accept using credits for avatar creation, the company has now started charging credits per minute of video generation as well—something that was never advertised or part of the original deal.
