Q: I asked this question on the Discord but haven't received an answer yet.

I am curious how censored is the model you are using. How does it handle violence or gore in relationship to a monster flick storyboard?

A: The base model is Stable Diffusion so a lot is possible. We only censor nudity.

So, now I honestly have to ask: why? What kind of logic is that? Where is the sense in that? I just don't understand people who say: “the showing of violence, blood, pain, and suffering in almost any form is perfectly fine, but nudity? For God's sake, of course not! We're censoring that!” Can you please explain this to me seriously? It's not that I want to generate something like “hardcore porn” here. But I would like to understand, what is reprehensible or should be censored about nudity in general — yes, even sexual content — when something much worse and more negative doesn't need censorship, namely the depiction of violent content? And now please don't come to me with the argument, that the aim is to prevent pornographic content involving children/minors from being produced. There is no question that this is forbidden, and I hope that everyone here is in their right mind and doesn't even have such thoughts. But, according to this logic, one could also simply ban the depiction of children in general. After all, if violence and blood can be depicted, then the violent abuse of children can practically also be depicted (regardless of any form of nudity).

In my opinion, If anything at all should be censored, then what is forbidden/illegal/against common sense, but not nudity in general.
Why should it? This is precisely why Stability.ai stands for an open basic idea, without directly imposing barriers on the user from the outset and without assuming per se that the user may want to create illegal content.
So I really don't understand that. What is the problem here, please? Depiction of naked people: no / Depiction of the execution or mutilation of people: yes? … people who love each other and are depicted exchanging affection: no/people who commit violence or murder each other: yes? What am I misunderstanding? Serious question?
Or am I entirely wrong in this case? Please feel free to correct me. Otherwise, please explain to me why something “harmless” like nudity is being censored again (even though we are all adults in a creative industry) while depicting violence is perfectly fine. Please excuse this somewhat “temperamental” post, but this is something that just doesn't get into my head…

Responding to JanisOnFyre:

Ideally, we would not censor anything since we'd like Katalist to be a tool the creative wields and uses their best judgment to use appropriately. Unfortunately, there are legal risks with some images that could be generated that feature nudity.
