My Honest Review
Sustains.
- You can search ads by keywords with limited sorting options
- You can view the ads which can give you ideas on how to position an ad against a competitor
- The keyword search is awesome where you can consolidate "channels that rank for this keyword".
- The ability to copy competitor channels to clipboard and add to youtube ad campaign placements is a time saver for sure.
- Youtube keyword search function is awesome! It does help aggregate a good competitor list compared to a regular Youtube search.
Improves.
- I'm a tier 3 AdSpy feature purchaser and I get this, "Hold on a sec!
Looks like your current plan does not include YouTube Ad Spy - but all hope is not lost, you can upgrade your AppSumo license OR get unlimited access by subscribing to KeywordSearch."
- AdSpy does not provide "Possible Keywords", yet "Possible Keywords" is displayed as empty. This begs to question if it really pulls the ad competitors' keywords used to run the actual ad. Hence the display, "Possible". In the Channel search, you get channel keywords. All this makes sense, but again, does it pull the actual keywords that specific ad is running against or is it just suggested?
- "Ad Views over time" needs the flexibility to control time. It's currently locked in at about 30 days. A longer time frame to analyze at least a year out is important to understand seasonality for those longer-running ads.
- Similar Keywords have significant sort delays. In some cases, the sort time glass never goes away.
- "keyword search volume trend" doesn't populate a timeline trend as shown in the tutorial video by Aleric.
- The Channel search "Channels" column is confusing. Please add an info pop-up so we know what we're looking at. When I see a channel has 5,069 Channels, that confuses the heck out of me. Is it supposed to be the number of videos?
- Although keyword searches are great, they are not what people are actually typing in youtube. It'd be great if this tool could add a Google (PAA) People Also Ask type search results. I can grab similar or even better keywords from other tools. But since this tool is specific to youtube, it'd be great to pull improved data.
In summary.
Personal thoughts.
Because Aleric is behind this tool, he's also behind other tools. As an "early adopter" we'd all like to see the tool grow and we become raving fans. Or this tool could go the opposite way and just sit in limbo and die after a few years as otheers have mentioned.
Overall I think it's a great tool. I think the keyword search aspect is awesome. However, I'm not sure if the AdSpy is worth it in my opinion besides compeating against a competitors ads in the sense of creating a better ad.
Of note, when researhing tools, it's always nice to see a roadmap and About page. This tool doesnt have either, atleast from what I've researched, which is a red flag for me. It makes me ask and wonder how dedicated the team is.
I think the tool has improvements and future fine tuning.
