Even as a Windows user, this gets 🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮
When I first bought a licence, I hadn't even seen the additional features provided to Mac users.
Komodo does something Loom et al doesn't; it provides an easy way to produce great to read, and simple to record guides.
In my line of work, I find myself recording tutorials a lot.
First I tried just piecing them together with screenshots, which takes a lot longer than you'd think, once you account for grabbing the screens and writing the captions.
Then I tried recording video, which is equally laborious for someone who 'Um's and 'Err's a lot.
I've tried another application recording software from AppSumo, which came with an eyewatering ~$100 price tag and wasn't all that great.
I've been using Wisecut to remove my bumbling from videos but that either takes too much or too little.
Enter Komodo:
I press record.
I turn the microphone and camera off (phew).
I do the thing I need to do - No pressure, no rush.
I share the perfect guide.
Simple!
I'm very glad to see that the devs have agreed to add whitelabelling and CNAME to their roadmap.
Pros:
- Very simple, very clean workflow.
- Incredible price. If Komodo come back, I'd be surprised to see it < $49.
- Responsive devs.
- Devs have confirmed whitelabel and CNAME apply to sumolings.
Cons:
- Some of the features on the listing don't exist yet (subdomains, for example), and there is no mention of this anywhere. I feel this is an honest mistake, but it feels a little off to have sold licences with this in the sales copy.
- No native Windows app. Some of the major selling points of Komodo aren't available on Windows, but there is no mention of this anywhere in the sales copy. Again, I cautiously feel this is an honest mistake, and the devs have said they're enriching the web-app to compete, but having seen what Komodo can do on those overpriced, overdesigned, underpowered, design-centric lumps of silicone, it feels like a bit of a bummer to not have a Mac 🤮 (And now I need a shower.)
Overall though, and Mac features aside, this fills a gap in the market that everyone else has either neglected to fill, or has filled poorly. With a few more updates, I think this may replace my trusty Berrycast account!
