I've four - count them, FOUR - microphones on my computer (five if you count the second webcam). Why? Because I've different mics and headsets for different jobs. All have some degree of noise cancelling, but only two in the microphone pickup.
So I went into the Krisp deal with trepidation.
This morning I tested each and every mic with Krisp. The results were varied, but all well in advance to what I expected.
I tested by putting on some seriously loud heavy metal (sorry neighbours), with both high-pitch femail vocals and low, rumbling screamo vocals, plus all the rest of the industrial noise that I could muster. There was also a leaf blower going on outside, but that was not a planned part of the test.
In every mic test, the background noise was killed. The most impressive result was with my Polycom conferencing room unit, which resulted in crystal clear voice and no noticable background audio. Wow. Just. Wow. The worst performer was (as expected) the webcam mic, which resulted in a more 'muffled' and 'clipped' voice pattern. Somewhere in the middle was my Jabra Motion Office (my go-to video coms earpiece unit) which has a noise cancelling of its own. The voice pick up was a little 'fuzzy' in places, and a noticeable drop in quality from when it is used by itself in a quiet environment. But in all cases, the background noise was effectively eliminated. I am super impressed with Krisp.
Now... if these folks could embed this tech into a mobile phone headset or get Apple / Samsung to built it into their hardware (though I image this is very processor heavy)... ooohhh, let me put Krisp in my pocket, please!
In short, this is a fantastic buy if you do a lot of work over video coms. FIVE TACOS!
