It's true that the redemption link redirects to a purchase page.
(In addition to the previous response), once the Appsumo code is entered, the CC fields disappear and you wouldn't have to provide your CC details.

All you need to do is enter your Appsumo code in the coupon field, which will bring the price down to zero.

Just a heads up - After clicking on redeem code, I had to enter my appsumo code in the coupon field twice (in 2 separate transactions) to make the credit card fields disappear and bring the transaction down to zero.
Perhaps you can improve the redemption process for a smoother experience?
