Already disappointed and I did not even finish signing-up
I am just starting to build a new website where I want to promote and sell my new online course. For the first time I use thrive themes and I saw that they offer an integration with Mailpoet. There is a LTD on AppSumo for Mailpoet so I considered giving it a shot and bought a code. 5000 subscribers for a new website seems to be ample and even though Mailpoet has limited features, it should be just fine for what I need: adding subscriptions to a list, sending drip campaigns and a newsletter every now and then.
But already the registration process was not pleasant - to put it mildly.
You see, I am German and my English is somewhat limited. I will try to explain my feelings, as best as I can.
To put it plainly:
1) I do not like companies who do not honor a contract.
2) I do not like being suspected of performing illegal activities.
I purchased a licence and instead of being able to use what I paid for, they first want to manually approve that I am not intending to misuse their service. And they want to do it by forcing me to fill out a form with three questions, they want to review those within 24 hours. So now I am sitting here writing this review instead of testing their plugin.
Honestly, this must be some sort of an American thing that I am familiar with from my last visit to the US: they plainly ask you on a standard immigration form questions like "are you a terrorist"? Mailpoet asks you similarly questions like "do you intend to send SPAM" (or something like that).
Maybe American criminals are more stupid than German criminals. But I want to believe: if someone had the intention of doing something illegal he would just choose to not truthfully answer the questions.
That brings me to my next point: one thing about western civilizations is the concept of "not guilty unless proven" (or whatever the correct legal term is). Bottom-line: I do not like to justify myself like that.
But it doesn't stop there.
Now, that I read the other comments, Mailpoet seems to randomly suspend whole accounts for just a few hard bounces or spam notices. "Seems" because they keep their policies completely undisclosed. I sometimes report emails as SPAM because I have a bad day, like right now because of Mailpoet.
Guys, I am neither an email- nor a legal expert. I just do not like to face allegations like that without even ever having taken any action.
I am wondering: is this service really so precious and unmatched that I would risk a new business over a deal like this? Without E-Mails the business is as good as dead. They are crucial.
It seems to me that there is a lot of competition out there that also offers more integrations and advanced features like triggered emails etc.
Yes, this is an attractive LTD. But it is also a compromise.
I am scared now to trust this company with sending the emails of my new business, fearing suspension of my account for random reasons due to nebulous policies.
