Q: New editor & API

Hey,

I've read in the comments about the new editor (which was planned for the end of February if I've seen it correctly). Also inside Eniston it's statet to be finished to 95% inside one changelog entry. How's the current status about it? I've some articles to create and it probably makes sense to do this in the new editor.

Another question... Are there plans to extend the API functionality to be able to create and upate articles too? Would love to automate some of my technical documentations.

Thanks already :)

A: Hi there,

Ah well, the new editor... 🫠 We had a fully functional, custom editor based on TipTap up and running but we were having problems extending existing plugins and also writing custom plugins that we needed / wanted. We then implemented another (better) third-party solution that was easier to extend and that's what we plan to ship soon.

So yeah, we lost a lot of time because of this. Maybe in a future update we will resume working on the fully custom editor, but for now, a better third-party solution should do it (hopefully).

Yes, we still plan to offer a POST API. But we'll be working on multiple languages (categories and articles in different languages) before that and also improve the auto-save functionality for articles.

There's a lot of stuff planned, but we don't make enough money yet to hire another developer.

Hey Andreas,

thanks for the honest feedback!
In my opinion, slow and sustainable is exactly the right way to go.

I also see absolutely no problem with the third party editor :)

But the question I ask myself at this point is whether I wait for the new editor with the new articles or still create them in the old one. Give me a hint - is “soon” so close that I should wait for it?

It is planned that all articles written with the current editor will be migrated to the new one. That's what I'm currently working on; including a roll-back function if things go wrong. So, ideally, it won't matter if you start now or wait for a couple more days. I feel like I MUST finally release this next update as it's been way too long. So, I'd say "soon" means within the next 2 weeks.
