Q: I just bought this and noticed that your app mentions how important privacy is and that your company takes ...

care of our privacy by storing and sending data encrypted. A second later it tries to connect to a gazillion of other services (including Facebook and Doubleclick!!). Why is that? What data do you send to all these companies?
A tool that collects this amount of (sensitive) data should absolutely not do that. I am tempted to give it a zero star review, just for that, because this is an absolute No-No, but hope you can clarify and remove these trackers, which clearly do not add any value for the user.

A: Hey Tim,

Thanks for your question. I am really sorry you had this bad experience. We do take privacy extremely seriously and we never pass any personal information to these companies. We only use Facebook and Google Analytics on our Home page to understand how much traffic we're getting from paid ads and from SEO. We never pass personal identifiable information (such as email or name) but instead set a random hash id called "external ID" for FB and "client ID" for Google Analytics.

We never use these services within the application, only on home and landing pages. So after you sign up, you will never encounter them in Rize. Additionally, if you use an ad-blocker these services will not work on the home page.

We had a lot of hesitancy using FB Analytics and Google Analytics even without sending personal information and on only landing pages. However, it's really important for us to understand and track how well our paid ads are converting and how much traffic we're getting from SEO and from where. We do this to get the most accurate understanding of how users are finding out about Rize and from what channels. We need to understand this data well in order to successfully grow the company long-term.

I completely understand your concern and appreciate your question. I hope I was able to alleviate your concern with this response. I'm happy to shed more light on our thinking and our use of these services. I'm also happy to set up a call to talk more about this if you'd like. My email is [email protected].

Hi,
I wasn’t talking about your homepage here. It is totally understandable to use Facebook, Google Analytics and other services there. I am talking about your app on macOS. Using Little Snitch I saw that it connects to DoubleClick, Facebook and Google Analtyics.
Please clarify if you will remove these trackers from the app.

Oh okay. That is definitely not right and I will remove them immediately. Do you mind sharing what page you're seeing this on? I'm using a similar tool and they're not showing up in the dashboard for me.

Tim_P any update on their trackers? Thank you!

Hey santokki,

Thanks for your question. As one of two developers of Rize, I can assure you that we never used Facebook or Google Analytics within the app. I went through the entire logic of the dashboard to see where this could've happened and never found anywhere they were being included. I even downloaded Little Snitch and went through the dashboard and it didn't show any calls to third-party trackers.

If you don't believe me, I encourage you to download Rize and use a tool like Little Snitch. We take privacy and security extremely seriously and will never use third party trackers within the application.
