Pretty decent tool..

đź‘‹To provide some context to my opinions and what I'm comparing this too, I've been using Camtasia, Snagit and Techsmith tools for years and totally love their stability, intuitiveness and robustness. The only downside Techsmith has is the cost (but of course, you get what you pay for right) and they take a little too long to roll out new features. I also use Filmora a reasonable amount.
I've done some initial tests with ScreenToVideo and here are my thoughts..
âž• What I like:
Pretty good tool on the onset with a lightweight (loads fast) and polished feel.
Felt the robustness with this tool as recordings were done pretty fast with a fast render time and no glitches and productions were great.
Love the cursor effects, 'remove silence' feature, video effects and 'zoom and pan'.
Generally a nice set of features.
âž– Areas of improvement (and do forgive if something mentioned below is there but i haven't discovered it yet..still exploring):
To me, all the features or at least the way they're presnted..the UI could feel less 'cluttery' and a bit more intuitive, for instance: 1. I found myself trying to figure out what some of the symbols mean in the left and even in the right menu at the top when something is selected. And then, sometimes I see the same symbol on the right and on the left so it gets a bit confusing. It would be great to expand out the left menu to read what some of those symbols mean instead of having to move the cursor to hover over them every time (probably a toggle to keep the left menu expanded with the name of the symbol or contracted with just the symbol, would be nice).
2. I'm still figuring out animations.
3. Think i recently found the 'undo' button but didn't yet see the 'redo' button though in the 'Edit' menu, and it wasn't noticeable as one of those quick action buttons.
4. Though i could split a recording, I couldn't figure out how to 'group' media or stitch back recordings together. As an extension to this, when media is split, it's hard to add cursor effects 'afterwards' since it adds only to the section that the playhead is on.
5. I couldn't figure out how to add a 'fade in;fade-out' effect for some of the video effects like a 'spotlight' so they could smoothly fade in and out instead of abruptly popping up.
6. Couldn't find 'callouts' or some stickers or 'basic' media anywhere (outside of the sketch tools). The callouts are essential for recordings.
đź’ˇ Would be nice to drag and drop animation and effects on clips, and be able to see them in their...just love that level of intuitiveness.
Overall, STV is a pretty decent tool though..I like it and would recommend it. Will definitely keep it for when i need something to record Camtasia or Snagit's editors..lol.
Keep evolving!
