Insane Deal - if it lasts
The amount of people kicking their own butts once they understand what they missed will be massive - if this platform survives the next year.
While fresh out of the oven and not as established as other solutions in this space, the deal conditions simply are too good to let it pass.
1. Pro:
1.1. Ease of use (though it could be improved. Also see below)
1.2. Flexibillity (API + SDK + online Editor + Magic URLs)
1.3. Price, Speed, Simplicity
2. Needs Improvement: (not really cons since its still a 5 star review)
2.1 Those only creating a very few images will shift design efforts to code efforts = no win.
Solution: Provide (a lot) more and better templates (in categories) + “Components / Building Blocks” will mitigate this factor drastically. (Maybe even a “Figma importer” for those feeling more home in design tools or having a set of templates / compoonents there already)
2.2. Lack of structured approach, especially for agencies and clients/companies managing more than one product / brand.Solution: Allow to create, store and re-use template parts (components/snippets) within templates (for consitency), define multiple set of colors / fonts for various brands/cleints/products or at least setting defaults for light/dark themed designs/images/documents). Allow template sets (e.g. “icon”, “profile”, “banner”, “single post”, “caroussel” (4+ images) to be defined and created from a single API call to get an “asset folder”
2.3. Allow options for SVG (one or more) in [options] such as title, description, id/symbol, switch to simplify / align asset management (since those svgs are sometimes already present, used in web or email - don’t make me create new ones just for this but allow me to use whats there.
2.4. MUST DO: Please don’t make stitching together the MAgic URL myself each time. You got the parameters. Please provide a simple “Copy Magic Url” button that already holds every parameter
2.5. Allow creating several API Keys AND to set rate/use limits (in case a key or Magic URL gets leaked) + auto notify (mail and/or push) if a Magic URL gets triggered more than x times within x minutes/hours/day.
2.6. Consider: Open Document Format as Template source (Apple Pages or Microsoftcould be used to create templates (exported in open doc format they turn plain xml docs) to allow non coders still doing great things as they could create the templates in the tools they are used to use. You still can export back to Open document format, docx, html, pdf, …)
2.7. Consider: Allow creation of local dictionaries that could be used for replacements (e.g. a ShortCode where “slug” replaces the longform equivalent automagically. Another use case is for letters / words containing special characters otherwise getting ignored or causing issues (é, ö, ü, ä (if you create Actions for shortcuts, you could bake that in too). A more advanced use case would be a preset “dictionary” where a shortcode used in options could trigger a predefined set (colors, light/dark, size, fonts to use) - reducing complexity in the Magic URL itself
3. Missing:
3.1. Consider as well to allow uploading custom icons, fonts, images (e.g. brand logos)
allows easier Magic Urls,
3.2. Allow animated svg and export to html as well as mjml or alike to use e.g. countdown timer in email (where I expect the time to be inlined and not generating a new API request each second :)). With that allow export as animated gif
3.3. Consider to create a set of macOS/iOS actions for the Shortcuts app/ macOS Automator. This gets you visible to millions Apple Users for free (add a view YT Videos to ensure ease of access and share samples people can use on the free plan), it adresses some of the security concerns with the Magic Url not being secured at least when working locally/in teams, it allows closing the loop of many automation workflows
4. Unclear (Bug?):
I am not sure if Magic URLs should be URL encoded or not but it appears that using non encoded Magic URLs using empty space or an ampersand between words (e.g. ?sender=Mom & Dad) are not resolved correctly (in that regards: Please be aware that e.g. in German language there are letter such as ö,ä,ü, not even talking about french or spanish. I didn’t test for that yet but could imagine this becoming a challenge. See #2.7.)
