A Good Bookmarking Tool
I was using the standard bookmarks facility in Google Chrome and had lost control of my bookmarks … you know - the stress of saving a link in the full knowledge you’ll never find it again. Now, I have Minimarks on the home page of my browser so my links are always available, better organised and most importantly visible and easy to find.
Minimarks works in two modes - reading list and icon grid. For some collections the icon grid mode works well. For example I have bookmarked every single Appsumo Product I have bought (and still use), and display this as an icon grid, because as you would expect, as all the icons are different.
But for bookmarking most other things, you cannot use grid icon mode as you can't guarantee each icon will be unique. In the case where you are sometimes bookmarking many pages on the same site, the icons will all be the same. So in this case you use Reading Mode where, unlike Icon Grid mode, some text is visible to clearly identify what you’ve bookmarked.
I create website for clients and I have started bookmarking the Google Page Speed performance of each client's home page before and after I build a new site for them.
Overall the product is promising - there are a number of improvements to be made although I must emphasise is it entirely usable as it is right now. There are quite a few suggestions from users on the Roadmap - so I hope this team will take them on board and release updates more frequently than the change log indicates to date.
You can make collection bookmarks public which could be handy for sharing with colleagues or clients. You could even use Minimarks as a quick and dirty linkinbio tool by making a collection public and adding all your links to that collection. The thing I’d like to see soon is a way to have two columns of bookmarks when in reading mode, as right now there is a lot of wasted screen real estate.
Good job - Seb - I hope it will continue to do well.
