Awesome for Repurposing Long Form Content
Why Minvo? For the past three years, my husband has been doing a weekly podcast, and I get to be the editor, producer, and marketer most of the time. (Thank goodness for Appsumo deals along the way to make my job so much easier!) So being more in the audio space, I wasn't really looking for a video shorts editor...
But then Google podcasts ended, and now suddenly, we have a Youtube podcast channel. So in just the past few weeks, we have three years of audio content and a brand new YouTube channel to grow.
Enter Minvo.
Honestly, I haven't really ever looked for a shorts editor before. I generally don't love to edit video at all. I have plenty of editing software, but I have always hated creating shorts from these long episodes because it takes forever to do it.
You have search for a good clip, figure out how to position the side-by-side speakers from the zoom recording, clean it up (we always cleaned the audio file, never the video), add branding and make it pretty, add in extra things like animation, emojis, b-roll, and intros/outros, and then you'd have to download the video and then upload to the social media platform or to your scheduling software.
Anyway, you get the idea. Before Minvo, making shorts from our long content just took way too long. (I have my own full-time company and kids on the side, so managing my husband's podcast isn't the only thing I have to do all day.)
Here's what I LOVE about Minvo:
• Minvo's AI finds the best clips for shorts
• You can split the screen to feature both speakers
• You can use MAGIC to edit the shorts, cutting out empty space and filler words
• MAGICALLY add B-Roll, emojis, branding, and even intro/outro
• You can even post right to your socials from within the software.
BUT, even though this lovely little AI tool is doing most of the work, you can still go in and tweak it, add or delete sections, edit the transcript (although the transcripts on the things I've done so far have all been quite good), change the views (split screen, one speaker, etc.), upload your own intros/outros, music/sounds, b-roll, images, etc., so you can make it how you want it pretty easily.
One more really nice thing is that it includes editing via both the transcript and the timeline editor. I used to edit the podcast in Descript and I can't tell you how many times I had to write down the timestamps for when the transcript editor wouldn't catch the right words, and then I'd have to export that back into a timeline editor to go back through and fix the parts that couldn't be fixed in the other editor. Took FOREVER! So yes, even though I'm just doing shorts here, having access to the timeline editor in addition to the transcript editor in Minvo is super helpful!
Now, there are a couple of other shorts editors here on Appsumo right now. I tried the free version of all three of them before purchasing Minvo. I like each of them for different reasons, but for our particular use case (turning longform podcasts from a zoom video into shorts for social media), MINVO was the one I purchased now.
It takes a minute to figure out all the Minvo controls (or alternatively, you could watch the nice how-to videos and save yourself a bit of struggle but that's not how I roll:-)
Overall, I like it a lot. And I like that I can get very useable shorts without investing too much time and energy. Take it from a recovering perfectionist, doing something good and fast is better than doing it perfect and never.
There are a lot of really good reviews here, and I'm just adding to the chorus, so just buy this already.
