Q: Backups, migration, staging?
Hi,
I'm wondering about the different use cases we can use the backups of a website created by Modular DS. For example:
1) Are these "just" backups that we can roll a site back to, in case something on the site breaks?
2) Can we use these backups for website migration (from one hosting provider to another)?
3) Can we download and store these backups offline – to have an extra layer of security, in case anything happens to your servers?
4) Can we use the downloaded backups (IF we can download them at all) to restore a website and/or install a website on a clean WordPress installation, even without Modular DS (or your plugin)?
None of these are dealbreakers at the moment, but the more use cases & flexibility your backups offer, the better.

They are normal backup you can use to restore it manually right now or to migrate the website. But we are about to launch the restoration feature from Modular in a couple of days. And yes, you can download them at any time. But very important, Modular DS backups are not stored on your server, they are in AWS cloud, so no need to worry about that.
So am I understanding correctly that once I download a backup, I can use it to restore a website, completely independently of Modular? (That's definitely not my intention; just some extra peace of mind that I do have that option as a last resort)
You are right. It is a full backup of your website so you can restore it like that. Here you can see different methods: https://help.modulards.com/en/article/how-to-restore-modular-backups-9sbsus/
