This should be a 5-taco review, but a few things keep it from earning the hot sauce.

What Mootion gets right are the quality of the images and animations. It’s a solid 4 out of 5 tacos, sometimes even a perfect 5.

I've been using another short-form video creation app called HyperNatural for a while, and the workflow is incredible. I'm going to compare Mootion to Hypernatural because they are incredibly similar. Although Mootion offers a few extra features that Hypernatural doesn't, it falls short in a few areas.

With HyperNatural you put in a script, and it produces a storyboard with narration. Then you can replace images or animate. Before you use any credits, it tells you how many seconds the video will be which is extremely useful. Once you generate the video, you can hear the narration alongside the storyboard.

Since I’m making a faceless channel, I need it to be between 60 and 70 seconds to qualify for CRP TikTok. Mootion doesn’t give you that info. I've ended up with nearly. 2-minute videos because I didn't know how long the script was (LLMs can't count characters or words, it seems). Mootion needs to tell you the runtime of the script in case you need to make edits before using credits.

With Mootion, you edit images and animation before you get the voiceover, which is different from HyperNatural. This makes it feel a bit disconnected since you can’t see how animation matches the narration. It's doable, but it's not ideal.

Still, I've worked around it and once I have finished the video, what I’m noticing is there are big gaps when sentences are short. Mootion seems to create videos clips of fixed length. If the sentence is long, it fills the time, but if it’s short, there’s a silence gap before the next sentence.

With HyperNatural, the video clip ends when the sentence ends. Mootion really needs to add this feature to automatically crop the video clip the length of the script, or add a way to remove the silence. Currently, the only way to avoid long pauses is to import the video into a separate editing software and cut the silence manually. This adds a lot of time to the final edit. Also, people have short attention spans. They're not going to wait for silence.

I want Mootion to be a 5-taco program because it’s already very good in so many ways. They just need to fine-tune a few parts of the workflow. I hope they see my comparison to HyperNatural and make these improvements.
