Multilingual sites in 20 minutes — a huge time saver
We were using a WordPress site with WPML as a starting point for a few businesses we are building. WPML works, but in my experience it is difficult to set up and maintain. Before you know it, a translation update is needed and you have to go through posts and pages again. Translating everything manually took us weeks, even though we used AI to help with the translations.
The challenge is that we need to do this for seven sites, including a few that still need to be designed and built. When we first saw MultiLipi, the price made us hesitate, but because of the 60-day refund period, we decided to give it a try.
We started with one less important site. It already had WPML installed, with translated pages in English and Italian. I disabled WPML and connected MultiLipi, which was very easy. You simply create a project in the clean dashboard, download the plugin, install it, add the key, sync the pages, and you are done.
One thing to be aware of: when disabling WPML, all translated posts and pages from other languages were added back into the normal posts and pages list. MultiLipi indexed everything. I was able to prevent it from translating too much by lowering the translation budget, so it did not use many credits unnecessarily.
After deleting those old translated posts and pages, I enabled a small budget of 10,000 credits and MultiLipi started translating on the fly. Pages were translated when they were viewed for the first time. Within about 20 minutes, my site was completely translated.
I still need to figure out exactly how to add the language switcher with custom CSS in my main menu, but there are many suitable language switchers available, so this is not a showstopper.
What surprised me the next day was that I saw a huge increase in website traffic. LLMs like Gemini and Claude started referencing the site, and we received many new visitors from all over the world. Citations in AI chats can clearly help a site get more visibility and traffic.
I still have a few questions for support, but they have responded quickly and seriously so far. I am confident that my questions will be answered or solved.
For the next site, I would first export all WPML language files, remove all non-native posts, pages, categories, and tags, and then delete WPML to start clean. Or even better: start with a new site without any translation plugin installed. In that case, MultiLipi feels like a no-brainer.
The claim that you can have a translated website within 30 minutes is real. If I need another language, I just enable it and it works.
Highly recommended. MultiLipi has already saved me a lot of time, and with everything we need to do in the coming months, it will be a huge time saver.
