I work with a lot of authors and tried that too but all the icons were light bulbs. How about a pen or a typewriter or script writing? I also work with a lot of historians and I did one for history and that yielded all crown icons.

So, how do I get some variety? I need more options than just one blanket idea per entire industry prepared in different ways. I need the actual icon to be of different things, so I have different ideas to choose from. It could be user error. Am I missing something? If not, is this something you plan to fix or make more clear?
