I love this thing, spinning it up with full API control.. Let me know if you have a git as I can make some great contributions and requests to mature the platform.

✗ API-created runs use started_by: "api", invisible in Personal
→ user has to look in Team tab

✗ Cannot edit tasks on a published template
→ POST /process-templates/:id/publish with {published: false},
edit, then publish: true

✗ PATCH on run tasks can only UPDATE existing custom_elements
by id, not ADD new ones
→ instructions must be on the template BEFORE creating runs;
inheritance is creation-time only

✗ POST /process-runs ignores custom_elements field too
→ can only initialize from template

These would make great GitHub issues if you want to share and we can post feedback for NextStep.
the API is solid but the docs don't surface these quirks, and
the started_by issue makes API-driven workflows feel broken.

This is the tool I didn’t know I had been looking for — and I’m so glad I found it. My coaching practice needed more consistency and less reliance on constant “creativity.” I created a process that helps me stay on track while working with clients, and that structure has actually given me more freedom to be creative, show up with confidence, and fully bring my value.

Since I started using NextStep, my practice has been running much more smoothly, and I feel significantly more confident — and far more efficient with my time and energy — in my work with clients. They also love how user-friendly the platform is to use.

I’m already thinking about the next part of my business I want to turn into a process! One thing I especially love is how professional it makes me look (which, to be fair, I already am — wink wink). But beyond that, having everything clearly structured and laid out gives my clients reassurance that they’re in good hands, working with someone serious.

let's buy it. cheap, easy. Why not

I recently bought this tool and have been integrating it into my existing workflows. I reached out to Ryan, the developer, and he helped me resolve an issue quickly — I appreciate the fast response and the support. The tool is easy to use and makes building workflows straightforward.

I gave it a couple of weeks of use before leaving this review. Pleasantly surprised at how good this actually is. Part of what I really like about it is that it's not overly complicated, it's easy to follow, and the built-in AI tool is actually functional, makes sense for the product, and saves me a ton of time.
An example of the AI tool in use was me taking an existing workflow in a static Word document, copying and pasting that workflow into the AI generator. It created the entire NextStep workflow for me, and there was very little work I had to do to make it exactly what I needed.
One of the bigger wins for me with NextStep is the ability to schedule the next‑step items that I create, so that I have easy reminders that go directly to my email, which then allow me to simply step through the process.
I didn't test the API or webhooks because I simply don't have a need for those at this time.
For my little setup, the price point is an amazing deal, and I'm excited to see what we have for the future of NextStep, although honestly, what is currently in the package will be plenty for me in the near future.
