Q: self hosted question
Hi there,
Can you share more about the kubernetes environment required for self hosted environments, and what the pricing may be to start with this? It takes a long time for me to learn to securely self host k3s but that is the only kubernetes I think I can handle on my machine. Please share more info as I stumbled upon your note that ansible for docker is under development which is also very interesting; I appreciate that you are one of the first appSumo deals to put privacy and security first and as a result I have invested. https://docs.nocode-x.com/when-to-choose-nocode-x/Self%20hosted/

Apr 13, 2025A: Hello domiq3,
It’s fantastic to see your dedication to privacy, security, and self-hosting! Your investment in NoCode-X and your thoughtful approach to learning Kubernetes show that you’re ready to take control of your environment while building something truly impactful. Let me break this down for you and provide all the clarity you need.
SELF-HOSTED ENVIRONMENT AND KUBERNETES
Yes, you can absolutely self-host NoCode-X, and the good news is that Kubernetes doesn’t need to be intimidating. Even a recent laptop can handle a Kubernetes setup for self-hosting, and k3s is a great lightweight option for your machine.
However, there are a few key points to keep in mind when transitioning from SaaS to self-hosting:
First, in a SaaS environment, NoCode-X takes care of everything for you—infra management, patching, hardening, and backups. When you self-host, these responsibilities shift to you. Specifically, you’ll need to:
Manage the patch cycle by pulling updates from our online repository.
Harden your Web Application Firewall (WAF) to ensure security.
Set up an out-of-band secondary storage volume to ensure full recoverability of your backups.
That said, we’ve designed NoCode-X to make self-hosting as frictionless as possible. If you’re comfortable with k3s, you’re already on the right track. And if you’re still learning, don’t worry—Kubernetes basics are easier to pick up than they seem, and the knowledge will serve you well even if you decide to stick with SaaS.
PRICING FOR SELF-HOSTING
For self-hosting, the pricing is straightforward and designed to scale with your needs. You can find detailed information here: https://docs.nocode-x.com/when-to-choose-nocode-x/Self%20hosted/.
The flexibility of NoCode-X allows you to start small and grow as your requirements evolve. Whether you’re hosting for a single team or scaling up for larger projects, you’ll have the tools and support to make it work.
ANSIBLE FOR DOCKER
I’m glad you noticed our note about Ansible for Docker! While this feature is currently a lower priority (as we’re focusing on the AI assistant and core features), it’s definitely on the roadmap. Once it’s available, it will make deployment and management even easier for self-hosted environments.
LEARNING KUBERNETES
If you’re new to Kubernetes, I highly recommend taking some time to learn the basics. Even if you decide to stick with SaaS, understanding Kubernetes will give you valuable insights into how modern infrastructure works. Here are some excellent resources to get you started:
