Far more cons than pros...
Ironically named OneTake, this video editor is not quite what I would call a simple one-take experience. I wanted to like this product as it showed great promise and is unique in what it offers. I liked the idea of being able to have my videos automatically edited and translated with captivating animations and callouts. Unfortunately, it has far too many issues and is not yet ready for prime time in my honest opinion. I have already sent several messages to their team and am still waiting for a response on what they plan to do to address some of these issues (have also checked my junk mail). At one point, their email server even sent me a message stating that one of my emails to them was not delivered and was marked as spam...
While there are many bugs and problems with their platform, here are the top issues:
1) Poor AI Editing/Video Quality – From the confusing and unintuitive interface to the inconsistent AI edits, I would rather just manually edit my videos based on the level of effort required with their AI. In fact, when I wasn't happy with the AI edits and deleted one of my videos, I uploaded it again and each time it edited the video differently and even had time stamps that didn't quite match the previous ones. If it can't be consistent with how it tracks and edits the same 45 sec. video, then it's not going to be reliable for longer more complex videos. Also, as others have already noted, the edited videos are often highly compressed and blurry which is disappointing. Additionally, a small UI bug I noticed is that in the video poster settings (image shown before the video plays), the dynamic and neutral posters appear exactly the same when applied, with the blurred image of the presenter in the foreground and a parallax effect. However, only the dynamic poster should appear this way. This means the neutral poster setting is not working as intended.
2) Poor Translation and Bugs – After I first allow OneTake's AI to edit the video, I have their AI translate it. However, in most of my attempts, the AI skipped the first few sentences of translation and left the video with an awkward long silent intro, which created more editing work for me later on. The other big issue is that their translation process removes the original language from the video player's language menu and replaces it with the translated version. So, the user basically has no way of playing the original video language. To make matters worse, after the translation is complete, the original link for the untranslated video gets updated to only play the translated version which is a serious bug.
3) Poor AI Voice Dubbing/Lip Syncing – The AI is inconsistent in how it matches the voice of the original speaker in translated videos. Sometimes the voice matches, but later in the same video, the voice may sound noticeably different. The results may also vary when you reupload the same video to try again. Also, the mouth movements for the lip-synced translations look unnatural and out of place (almost like a cartoon mouth that doesn't match the rest of the face). This can distract from your message so it's not something that any serious business would want to show their clients.
4) Markup Language and Formatting Issues – The purpose of markup language (which resembles HTML) in the advanced video editor is to allow you to add things like titles, bullet points, and formatting like bold or italics in video text. However, the bold and italics markup provided in the advanced editor doesn't work with presenter text, and the actual markup syntax can be seen in the video rather than being hidden as is intended. Also, indents don't work in some video styles where bulleted notes appear at the bottom of the video instead of the side. The other formatting limitation is that there is no way to adjust font sizes, even through their "advanced" editor.
5) White Label setup and mobile compatibility bugs – The LTD advertises Tier 3 as a white label solution. The only way to remove all OneTake front-end branding from videos hosted on their site is to either embed the video as an iframe on your site through an embed code they provide, or by adding your custom domain to your OneTake account. Like the rest of their online instructions, the ones shown for setting this up are not very clear or helpful and did not initially work for me. However, I was able to make it work through some alternate steps that they should have included (add an A record with their IP address if their CNAME info isn't accepted by your domain manager). While their branding was all finally gone after this, I noticed the following mobile compatibility bugs with videos hosted on their platform:
a) If watching a hosted video with text and a presenter on an iOS device using the Safari browser, there is a noticeable glitchy pause effect at the end of each AI-edited clip (about half a second) before it commences to the next AI-edited clip. So, the longer the video, the more occurrences of this short pause effect you'll notice from one clip to the next.
b) If you happen to change your Safari browser settings on an iOS device to request the desktop version of the site, it will begin to play the raw unedited video instead of the edited one while still attempting to use the selected video style which is a serious bug.
c) If watching a hosted video on an iOS device using the Safari browser, viewers will be forced to click two different play buttons in a row before the video can begin (once on the splash screen, and once on the video itself). Normally, you only have to click the play button once which appears only on the splash screen before the video begins to play.
I only experienced these issues with videos hosted on the OneTake platform when viewed on a mobile device, but not on a Windows laptop (not sure about a Mac). I'm also not sure if this occurs on Android mobile devices since I don't own one. The mobile compatibility bugs will also occur whether watching the videos directly on their site or when viewing them as an embedded iframe on another site. Based on this, it makes their white-label platform unreliable since most customers will want to view videos on their mobile devices. The only temporary workaround I found, until they can fix all these bugs, is to download the videos from their OneTake site and then upload them directly to a separate video streaming site or your own website. This seems to resolve all the issues I mentioned in #5 above. However, it is obviously not a preferred long-term solution as you lose some of the benefits of the videos being hosted on their site. Some of these benefits include providing viewers access to a:
a) customizable splash screen branded with your logo
b) detailed video transcript section
c) navigation menu linked to each AI-chapterized section of the video
d) language selection menu, assuming you have added translations and the menu works as intended (since it currently doesn't seem to be)
Hopefully, all these issues will be addressed in the coming weeks; otherwise, I will likely request a refund before my 60 days are up. Once the issues are resolved, I'm happy to revise my review at that time. But for now, there are far more cons than pros.
