Tried Several Course Platforms...
Okay, so I've tried about a dozen course platforms; from the expensive Teachable to other really great options here like UTeach. They were great software that also had some roadblocks, but OnlineCourseHost seemed to read my mind and address most of my hangups. Out of every 15 products I test, maybe 1 makes it into the "supplier" bucket.
First, the service and response are among the best I've seen and experienced. I emailed a request at 1:40pm on Saturday, and it was completed with a professional response at 3:52pm- the SAME day. No haggling- it was just done. For that alone, I am looking to migrate all of my resources and make these my "go-to" guys for all things course creation.
Here are other benefits:
1. No transaction fees, future monetization plan: I don't have to worry about charging for unlimited admins on the platform, and their future monetization plan means they are likely to stay around and keep developing.
2. Customized course settings: I like that you can choose to allow comments per course vs. having a sitewide standard. This is important if you invite other course creators and they want to have control over moderating (they can allow comments/downloads on some courses, and restrict others).
3. Easy Upload: I was able to jumpstart 3 mini- courses in one "let's try it out while binge-watching" evening admin session, thanks to the intuitive flow. (By comparison, it takes me two days to upload one (1) course on the platform I currently use when I am focused in my office. Maybe I can get my weekends back.)
4. AI Integration: One feature I found really cool is the AI recommendations. It suggests alternate course titles/subtitles, so it could help re-launch courses with better-performing titles. So I don't always have to jump over to my Voila or Eurekaa apps for simple title edits, which can be a time suck.
5. UI for Focused Productivity: Now...about the user interface. It’s super user-friendly. You won’t get lost in complicated menus or struggle to find what you need. It may be helpful for the easily distracted among us.
6. Student- Friendly: I can give my students choices to view courses in their own preferred learning style; transcript/book, video, and audio. I don't have to create another 'section' just to offer the same info in a different format. This adds an interactive touch that makes learning even more engaging for students.
7. ANTICIPATING: So, a major expectation (which has already been addressed and on the roadmap) are the live stream/online conference and payout-per-vendor option. So it may be a while if you heavily rely on livestreams, affiliate marketing or want to include other course creators with easy monetization distribution. Hopefully, they’ll implement this feature soon so that users can take full advantage of monetization opportunities in the future.
Great job to the team who seems laser-focused on their mission!
