Q: Hey Shriprasad, I was pretty stoked about your product at first, but then I took a look at the limits and had to pause.
The limits you've set seem like they'd work fine for small to medium teams or those with deep pockets.
Let's break it down: If I've got around 5000 students (and hey, a lot of Sumolings do), that's $40,000 a month at $8 a pop. That's just way too steep. At the big companies I've worked for, we usually went with Degreed alongside LinkedIn Learning and SAP SuccessFactors, sometimes throwing in tools like Blackboard, etc. Yes, these are expensive tools, but they are well-established and mature products that companies will pay top dollar for. But I think you aren't targeting these companies on this platform; it seems that you are here trying to win over Sumo-lings to grow your user base.
I see enormous potential in your product's sales. However, to ensure it becomes widely accessible and reaches a broader audience, I recommend reassessing the pricing strategy. I'm eager to hear your insights on this matter and your plans to address it.
My suggestion would be to consider a model where enrollments are unlimited, but the number of admins or creators is limited. Many current and previous LMS platforms available here on AppSumo follow a similar approach, each with its own unique features. While your product stands out with its AI-generated courses and quizzes, the strict limitations may hinder its adoption. To give you an example, my current LMS also has AI to generate courses and quizzes, but I don't have limits on students or the number of courses.
I understand you have your business model, and I'm not trying to sway you from it or arm-wrestle you. You're a data scientist, and I'm a Ph.D. in Business and Analytics and we both believe the numbers tell us the truth about our costs and profits, or at least they convince us of a reality. However, I genuinely believe that adjusting the pricing and limits could attract a significant number of AppSumo users. You'll be surprised at how many you'll get.
I hope this helps, and good luck. If you do change the pricing model, count me in as one of your first subscribers.
Cheers,
Julian

May 15, 2024A: Hey Julian,
Thank you for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and detailed note with us. We genuinely appreciate your enthusiasm for our product and your willingness to engage in a constructive conversation about our pricing and limits!
We’re actually in active discussions with the AppSumo team, and I'm happy to say that you can expect to see some revisions to our learner limits soon. Our aim is to make our product as accessible as possible to a wide audience, including the vibrant community of Sumo-lings. At the same time, we're mindful of maintaining the balance between being accessible and ensuring the sustainability and quality of the service we offer.
Stay tuned for those updates, and thanks again for your willingness to engage with us on this!
Hello again, Julian!
Just a quick update - we've been listening closely to what you and other Sumolings have been sharing and we've updated our LTD tiers with significantly higher learner limits to better match what the community has been asking for!
It's worth noting that the limits we now offer for our LTD aren't available in our regular plans outside of AppSumo, which are priced at $5 and $8 per seat per month. Our adjustment was a creative solution directly inspired by community feedback - with the community's push for more learners, we had to rethink our approach to remain sustainable without compromising the quality of service.
When you have a moment, please check out the new tiers - I really hope they fit your needs much better now. Thanks!
