Q: PDF Expert vs. PDF.net

I use Readdle's PDF Expert and have been a happy camper since purchasing its lifetime deal. We're talking decades here.

I can't see a single function that I couldn't do with PDF Expert better and cheaper. Not to speak of the massive price discrepancy here. Password protection only from tier-3 onwards? Seriously?

I don't get the USP. Honestly. I can search with AI directly from my Dropbox folder. Across all PDFs. Plus I can digitall sign a document. Not just place a signature image in there... but digitally sign it. With proof on the blockchain through another app. And nobody can remove my signature.

I'd love to see all these workflows online in a single platform. But not at the price tag shown here and certainly not with this limited functionality. But maybe I'm missing something? Enlighten me. Please.

A: Totally fair - if PDF Expert covers your workflow and pricing works for you, that's great!

Here are a few structural differences between the lifetime options:

PDF Expert:
• Mac-only (tied to one Apple ID)
• iOS version not included
• AI assistant not included
• "Big updates and new features" not included
• Some future features may require additional payment

pdf.net:
• Fully browser-based — works on any OS, any device
• No device lock-in
• AI included in higher tiers
• Ongoing feature development included
• Team plans available

If your workflow is heavily Mac desktop-based and you're happy with it, PDF Expert is a solid tool.

If you prefer web-based access from anywhere, without OS restrictions, and want AI built directly into the document workflow - that's where pdf.net comes in.

We're building a web-first PDF editor for people who prefer working online and across devices. So, different tools for different workflows 🙂
