Lifetime Deal? More like Lifetime Until They Don’t Need You
I bought the Pictury lifetime deal through AppSumo some time ago, and after not using it for a while, I recently tried to log back in. To my surprise, my account had been deleted. No warning, no email, nothing. When I reached out, I was told my account was removed for “improper use” and “violating terms.” That’s interesting, considering I haven’t used it in months.
Their reasoning? Apparently logging in from different countries. I’m a digital nomad — I live in Spain, work in the UK, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. If using a product I paid for while travelling counts as “improper use,” that says more about their system than about me.
What this really looks like is another company growing beyond its early supporters and quietly purging lifetime deal users. It’s a shame, because the software itself had potential. But deleting paying users without notice, then blaming “policy violations” that don’t exist, is the kind of behaviour that makes people lose trust in both the platform and AppSumo itself.
Once again, AppSumo buyers get burned — support a new tool early, only to be dropped when it takes off. Be warned: “lifetime” apparently means “until they decide otherwise.”
"All future plan updates"… meaningless AppSumo marketing lingo.
The ol' bait and switch trick. "All future plan updates" means nothing! The "Premium Plan" is gone and I've no idea what plan my LTD is now mapped to. Customer support? Not existing, simply ignores the question. The much needed updates to this promising platform introduced better voice overs and other features that now required a monthly paid upgrade! Not best business practice. Really disappointned. Again.
WHY DOES APPSUMO NOT ENFORCE THEIR "ALL FUTURE PLAN UPDATES" CLAIM???
Here's the reply from Pictory.ai on that matter, a canned response: "Thank you for reaching out! We understand your concern regarding the mapping of your AppSumo lifetime deal for the "Premium Plan" and the updates associated with it.
Currently, Pictory offers three plans: Starter, Professional, and Enterprise. Since the "Premium Plan" is no longer listed, your account should be mapped to the plan that aligns most closely with the features of the original "Premium Plan" you purchased. However, specific details about how your lifetime deal is mapped to the current plans or features would depend on the terms of your AppSumo deal and the updates provided by Pictory.
Regarding the new features like voice-over capabilities, these are included in the Professional Plan and Enterprise Plan. If you are being prompted to upgrade for these features, it may indicate that they are not part of the mapped plan for your lifetime deal.
To clarify your account's current mapping and access to features, we recommend reviewing the details of your AppSumo deal and comparing it with the features of the current plans."
Reviewing this because i just started using it years later, one of the great products that devs actually supported the lifetime buyers. Love this software. Great work devs.
After pictory disappointment i might stop buying deals from appsumo
why do we buy the new deals from appsumo, why? because we see potential and we hope in future when product becomes a hit and they launch new features then we would be able to use those new professional images. we make that investment by hoping if that becomes a hit we will get the upgrades and save money. i am extremely disappointed with pictory for this reason. now recently that have made much needed upgrades in their platform by introducing realistic ai voices and getty images upgrade to platform. but i can confirm that all those upgrades are available to any monthly paying subscribers for even the starter packages but the appsumo users for even top tier purchases are not able to use those upgrades. so what we are getting is still the 2-3 year old pictory. whats the point of buying these deals from appsumo if we are not going to get the future upgrades even when the seller has clearly mentioned in this listing. where is appsumo support on this? what you are guys going to do about it. you advertised this on your platform. dont you have any control on such sellers who literally abuse your platform and your customers. really dissappointed.
