Lifetime Deal? More like Lifetime Until They Don’t Need You
I bought the Pictury lifetime deal through AppSumo some time ago, and after not using it for a while, I recently tried to log back in. To my surprise, my account had been deleted. No warning, no email, nothing. When I reached out, I was told my account was removed for “improper use” and “violating terms.” That’s interesting, considering I haven’t used it in months.
Their reasoning? Apparently logging in from different countries. I’m a digital nomad — I live in Spain, work in the UK, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. If using a product I paid for while travelling counts as “improper use,” that says more about their system than about me.
What this really looks like is another company growing beyond its early supporters and quietly purging lifetime deal users. It’s a shame, because the software itself had potential. But deleting paying users without notice, then blaming “policy violations” that don’t exist, is the kind of behaviour that makes people lose trust in both the platform and AppSumo itself.
Once again, AppSumo buyers get burned — support a new tool early, only to be dropped when it takes off. Be warned: “lifetime” apparently means “until they decide otherwise.”
