Canva Replacement?

I've used many graphics editors over the years, most of which introduced annual pricing along the way. Inevitably the cost goes up and up until it surpasses the value I see from the new features being added. Last year I got so fed up with my last one (Xara) that I looked for an alternative and found Canva (Pro version). But that costs me £107 a year here in the UK, so whilst it did exactly what I needed, when PixTeller appeared on AppSumo, I snapped it up. Is is a replacement though?

My main use of any graphics software is to create images for posts. I need to add logos, titles, fresh images and create templates I can reuse with ease. By that I mean, open the software, find the template I want, change the image and text, save, download, and close as fast as humanly possible.

Does PixTeller do that? Yes - and I'm now a convert. I did this without a tutorial. If I'd had to read some long manual over how to use it like I had to do with Xara I would have refunded. I've already published my first two post images, and I don't think it took me any longer than it did with Canva.

Having said that, there is one thing Canva Pro has that I would love to see in PixTeller, and that is the branding options. To be able to create my own colour palette so I can choose the same branding colours every time I create a new asset would speed up things for me. Having said that, the colour picker has a rather neat feature whereby if you move the mouse over any area of the canvas it turns into a colour picker itself, so with one click you can copy a colour from anywhere else (on the canvas). Very neat.

I also found this tutorial useful (although the narrator sounds a bit robotic): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXFgcq0Od9A

PS. The speed has been fine. No glitches at all. I'm not sure why other reviewers have said it can be slow (that nearly put me off since speed is important to me, so I'm glad I went for it - the many 5 star tacos helped).
