Great concept, but needs significant work to be usable
I was excited by the promise of an AI-powered interview prep tool, but my experience with Prepin.ai has been deeply disappointing. The core idea is fantastic, yet the execution is deeply flawed, with several critical bugs that make the platform difficult to use. If these issues are addressed, the potential is there for a truly powerful tool. However, as it stands, it falls very short of the benchmarks set by other competitors in this space.
The Major Issues
The most critical problem is that the Mock Interview Reports are Broken. This is a core feature that simply does not work. After a mock interview, the system fails to generate or save a report, rendering the entire exercise useless as there is no feedback. This is a significant issue, as it defeats the primary purpose of the tool.
Slow and Unresponsive Support
The lack of a functional core feature is compounded by slow and non-responsive support. I first reported the mock interview issue on August 21st, and while I received a reply acknowledging the problem and promising a fix "tomorrow," I have yet to receive a resolution. My follow-up emails on August 22nd, 24th, and 30th went without a substantive response. As of today, September 16th, the mock interview feature remains broken. The slow communication and lack of a fix for a core issue is frustrating and does not inspire confidence.
Job Tracker & Queue Issues
The Job Tracker & Queue also has several bugs. You cannot start "pending" interviews from the dashboard, and there is no way to delete or archive anything from the job tracker or mock interview queue, causing a significant amount of clutter. Furthermore, the available statuses are limited (Saved, Applied, Interview, Offer, Archived) and lack important options like "Withdrawn" or "Ghosted," which are essential for a complete job search overview. This is a clear disadvantage when compared to Simplify.jobs and ResumeUp.ai, which offer more robust statuses and the ability to delete jobs.
I have also found the platform’s auto-logoff to be a major disruption. It frequently logs you out, even during active use. This is a solved problem on almost every other platform in this space, including Simplify, Huntr, Canyon, and major job boards like Monster and Dice. The constant need to re-authenticate is an unnecessary friction point.
Other notable issues include:
- Un-editable Profile: Once you set your profile and preferences, you're stuck. There is no way to modify or edit them.
- Broken Uploads: You cannot delete or rename uploaded documents, and a related "Email newsletters" toggle in the profile does not stay on when clicked.
- Missing Tutorials: "Goals" and "Question Bank" tutorials are both listed as "Pending," leaving a new user confused about how to use these features.
Conclusion
Prepin.ai has a great vision, but these bugs and missing features are a major impediment to its usability. I will continue testing the tool, but I am disappointed that the core features like mock interview reporting is not functional, and I will likely be asking for a refund. I believe the developers need to prioritize these fixes to make it the powerful tool it could be. For these reasons, I can only give it 1 taco.
