This is a tough one
I'm going back and forth. After testing a lot of course builders on AppSumo I thought I finally found it. I think I'll keep it but there are some things I don't like.
Let's start with the good stuff.
- It's relatively simple. Even with little knowledge you can it up quiet easily
- Clean Dashboard
- Lot's of integrations and easy to connect
- Direct Messages
- Creating collections with different courses is pretty cool
I am a course instructor so the most important thing to me is the user and learning experience. and this is were most of the AppSumo deals fail in my opinion. ProductDino is doing an ok job here, but some of the things I don't like.
- You are stuck with a couple of themes. The themes are not very flexible. In some themes you have a "move forward to the next section" button, some themes don't have it. I would like to decide myself if I integrate certain buttons. Some themes give a content overview, some don't. Every theme has pros and cons, and because you can't adjust them a lot you are stuck with what you get.
- ProductDino gives you the option to divide courses in sections and sub sections. Ok, but it doesn't really work like chapters. Let's say you go to section one. Once you you're done and move forward, it will direct you to section two instead to of directing you directly to the sub section. This is really not good for longer courses. If you are having a couple of lessons within one chapter, your customers will loose the overview.
- Quizzes are there but very rudimentary, difficult to attach and easy to oversee.
- Discussion forum is ok. But you can't see it in the preview.
I'm sure they are working and improving a lot of things. But the course builder is the biggest concern to me and just doesn't work well for longer courses. It is way too confusing from a user/learner perspective. I have a concern because it needs a fundamental upgrade.
I might keep it anyway for shorter courses (which don't need chapters) or as an alternative to recorded webinars. But I'm still looking for a solution for the normal courses.
