Very confusing ... Message to Matt

TL;DR: A new tool was introduced called V3 while the tool people purchased is V2, but it isn't an upgrade, it is a different tool, but it is. You can pay more money to upgrade, but if you don't, you are totally okay where you are with V2.

------

Matt, many people on AppSumo purchase a product to support it and allow it to mature before using it. I am indeed one of them.

What’s interesting is the release of V3 while V2 is still maturing. This creates a major marketing issue. You claim it is a different tool, which is understandable, but the naming convention suggests that what people invested in is now outdated (even though you say it is being updated).

A bit more transparency about the intention behind creating V3 in the first place would have been greatly appreciated. Why weren’t both platforms unified?

I completed your survey last year, investing in your community, but I feel compelled not to do so this year. Again, it’s about trust, and at this rate, that trust is gone. Sadly, the few hundred dollars spent would have been better invested in a working tool.

It isn't too late to rework the confusion.

Hi web95,

Thank you for taking the time to write this and for supporting Project.co early on. I completely understand why the V2 / V3 situation has caused confusion, and that’s on us to communicate more clearly.

To clarify the intention: V3 was built as a new platform because the underlying architecture of V2 limited how far we could take certain features (especially around performance, real-time collaboration, and scalability). Rather than force risky structural changes into V2, we chose to build V3 separately so we could continue supporting existing customers without disruption.

For AppSumo customers specifically, we’ve tried to take a balanced approach. All lifetime deal users can continue using V2 long-term exactly as promised. At the same time, we’ve also provided the option for AppSumo customers to access V3, either alongside V2 or as a replacement, for a very low annual fee to help cover the ongoing infrastructure and platform costs. This has been communicated via email and within our community so customers can choose what works best for them.

That said, I agree that the naming and overall messaging created the impression that V2 was being “replaced”, which was never the intention. V2 remains supported and usable long-term, and no features or access have been removed from LTD users.

We genuinely value the AppSumo community and the early support. Your feedback around transparency and communication is fair and it’s something we’re actively working to improve.

If you’d like to share more thoughts or discuss this directly, I’m always happy to listen. You can reach me at [email protected].
