Q: I feel a little sorry for the boys and girls of ProVideoFactory.
They have put a lot of heart and soul into this project, showed up here at AppSumo, full of expectations... and what happens: 90% of sumolings are complaining about the terms of the deal.
I think they have understood it by now. They will have their reasons why they do it this way. So find your peace Sumolings, buy the deal or just don't.
Cheer up ProVideoFactory, wish you luck with your product!
Q: The deal seems great if you want those premium Videos.
My issue is I think all sumolings want to create marketing video's and your licensing arrangements are opaque. You say simple royalty free licensing. However you then in the license mention using 'model released' and 'property released' stock. Then in search there is no option to filter or identify video's in this way. You have 'editorial and 'commercial'. Almost all the content seems to be editorial only? Which mean we cannot use them in commercial, marketing or promotional videos for distribution or on screens as backdrops to events? Your license specifically states we cannot use any video for marketing with a building in it if it is not marked 'property released'. However no court has ever found copyright exists in a picture of a property, less one taken from a public space. However your license could give grounds for you to pursue us for improper usage of your videos'. Just trying to clarify if there is any value in this deal as everyone is talking about the vids and credits. I think the deal is fine, if you just want hd vids then take the 150 offer onsite..
But if you want premium then the deal is great. The issue for me is around usage.. it is the exact opposite of what is promised about it being simple as far as i can tell.
Q: As an African American Woman, there are no videos in your system to reflect a prosperous lifestyle for African Americans, nor Black females.
This is great if I wanted to appeal to the sympathy of donors for a nonprofit. I'd be able to do like most people, show the poor in Africa and how we help them. It's sad you're advertising to be the largest stock of footage, but have excluded a population of women and culture that would invest in your content. The only problem is, we can't find anyone who looks like us within your vault? Not even at the business table. For this reason, I'll pass!
Q: Hi PVF,
Your videos look truly amazing, and I just wanted to let you know I'd love to give you money, but as ...
others have said, it's just the wrong deal for what we expect here.
I have pretty much zero need for videos. Maybe a negative need--I'd waste time playing around with them when I should spend that time on other things.
And...I'd buy this deal in a heartbeat "just in case," as others have said. I'd even buy if the current limits were annual ones: 10/25/40 videos/yr. You'd get my money and I'd maybe download 2 videos in my lifetime. Maybe.
But even if I never downloaded any, I'd give you my money & I'd love you for taking it. I'd tell others about you. And I'd waste time looking through your videos being happy.
But not as its set, as a one-time credit.
So I just wanted you to know why I'm not giving you my money, even though I'd really love to.
I am founder of deal we did on Appsumo for Publitio and we gave for 49$ life time cloud storage and bandwidth which will cost us at some point per user a lot. And you are giving all ready recorded content that cost's you 0$ after it was created. I wanted to buy the deal and I was like ok 10 videos a month.. maybe I could work with that, but this makes no sense.. Sorry for kinda negative question/comment but this is Appsumo and when you offer you need to over deliver as you will lose potentially 10.000 clients who would be buying @ some point.
Q: I am confused why Appsumo let this kind of a deal out of the gate?
Regardless of whether I look at it from premium content perspective or cost perspective. From cost perspective: I'd rather they offered their standard unlimited videos per month subscription (even if non premium) as an appsumo LTD. From content perspective: I'd rather they offered more premium videos or at least made a few 4K ones in the deal if they don't want to offer unlimited videos. HARD PASS for me. Sorry.
Q: I get that the price is great for quality video.
Personally, I need quantity and not quality for social media quickies and such. Hopefully, AppSumo realizes the huge interest in stock videos and presents us with another deal.
We are listening to the feedback, indeed seeing a trend on quantity over quality. Keeping this in mind for the future, but for right now if you do need Premium quality over quantity, this is the best deal we have seen on a per video basis. Thanks for popping in with your thoughts.
Q: You've replied to a couple of questions before like this: "The first code is 10 HD Videos, after that each code adds additional 15 videos.
There’s no limit. You can download as many videos as you want daily!"
If I can "download as many videos as you want daily!", then why is there a 10 video limit?!
There's no download limit assuming you have purchased enough credits to cover your needs. Sorry for the confusion initially, but I think it's been cleared up in subsequent replies. The deal doesn't include unlimited downloads, you are purchasing download credits which never expire at 90% off retail.
Hey Daniel, i'm sorry you feel the deal is bad. We understand that for a lot of people, the quality of the videos is not as important as the quantity you are getting with the deal. Will keep this in mind for the future. It was structured around the PVF Premium Library, which for the quality of the videos you are getting, cannot be matched anywhere as far as price per video from what we have seen. For the right person/team, we feel this is still the best possible deal on Premium Footage you will be able to find anywhere. Understandable if it's not a good fit for you. Thanks for the feedback.
Q: Footage looks good, but value is hmmmm...
Compare this to Envato Elements and this looks expensive. Is there a better comparison? What other video licensing services are comparable quality footage?
Q: Appsumo, it seems that as the volume of your deals goes up, the quality of the deals goes down.
It used to be that $49 would buy a really great deal... then you started watering down the $49 deals and went to stacking deals.
It used to be unlimited lifetime deals. Now it is limited deals and annual deals. This particular deal has to be one of the worst deals I've seen on Appsumo.
I used to get excited when I saw a new Appsumo deal. Now they are falling into the StackSocial, Dealfuel type deals. Sometimes good, but very few great deals.
No questions on this deal... just wanted to vent. I give this deal an "F".
Q: Where are your videos of African American families?
All I saw was African families. You might want to increase the diversity in your videos. There are more than white folks on the planet. I find that is problem with many stock photo sites too.
Q: Comparing this deal to deposit photos is totally wrong.
Deposit photos gave 100 photos for $49. How many photos do I need to use on a landing page ? May be 5? .....but to make a short video, how many clips do I need to use? perhaps 145. So to make a short video, I need to spend $390? I can hire a videograph for a day !
Q: I started looking at this deal a little closer after considering it.
Your platform seems to suffer from the same problem that many stock photo and video sites do, a lack of diversity. I looked through most of the main categories, medial only person of color is a male nurse, business none, lifestyle all appear to be in a stereotypical impoverished looking setting. So the question is, is there a plan to address this?
and the thing is your website shows a more successful path for how the deal should have been structured. This is what it should have been: 1 Code = Unlimited 1080 HD Regular Downloads (with daily or monthly limits) 2 Codes = Unlimited 1080/4k Regular Downloads (with daily or monthly limits increase) 3 Codes = Unlimited 1080/4k Regular Downloads (with daily or monthly limits increase) + 25% Discount on Premium Content 4 Codes up = same as above plus progressive discounts (5-10% each level) on premium content and increasing credits for premium content
Video is tough sell to begin with. Not everyone uses it regularly and out of those who do, many aren't using on the level to employ stock video footage. So, your audience is narrow to begin with. Plus, there is no real differentiation in the sales video above, the copy, or on your website between what Premium Content is vs Regular Content. And most buyers would have settled for a higher number of available content over quality (until they created their account - see the difference on the backend and purchase more codes to qualify for premium content).
As it stands, I suspect you will get very few participants on this current deal structure overall. Maybe a couple people that "understand it" will max stack out (which will still give you a low stacking average). Whereas, if it were structured as suggested your overall participation rate would be *much* higher (from "just in case buyers") and your average stacking level would also be higher. Also, your rating would go up and everybody would be happier even though most users probably won't login a month or so after their deals are redeemed.
Finally, CREDITS ONLY DEALS ARE *NOT* LIFETIME DEALS...And if you don't believe me, read the feedback requesting daily or monthly limits you have received so far. Deposit Photos (the godfather of credit only deals) gets away with this concept on AppSumo only because of the amount of credits they give (i.e. 100 for $50). You are not DepositPhoto (different category) and people can easily see using ALL your credits on ONE project. The only people I see taking advantage of this are experienced video editors CURRENTLY working on a project and need to grab content now.
Your deal needs to make space for the dreamers and just in case buyers. The suggestions above does just that whether buyers actually use it or not.
Fully agreed. I was consider to buy 6-7 codes when I thought they offer unlimited download with the daily limit, but for the offer number of videos in total - no way. It isn't a LifeTime Deal for me.
I know right? This current deal is only lifetime if you are planning on living the 10 more minutes it takes to download your 10 files for 1 video. :)
The thing is (and I'm sure someone at AppSumo could have told them), they would have sold a ton more deals the other way and there would have been a bunch of purchasers who never even bothered to download 10 videos even after their purchase of an unlimited plan. Many would have bought in just because it was good deal for the future (that may or may not ever come to fruition).
Thanks for the response and suggestions on deal changes. We agree a deal like you suggested would perform extremely well, but this is the best offer we are able to do at the current time. Deposit Photos also ran a deal for their stock video on a credit basis with 5 videos per code. The main complaint was people wanted more video so that's how we tried to structure this deal. We would love to offer a lifetime of unlimited videos but it is not possible at this time for us. Truly sorry, but we feel this is the best deal you will find on Premium content like this, even though some Sumolings don't seem to care as much about premium and want quantity over quality. Hoping those that do have a need for top-quality content will find value in the deal.
Firstly this is in no way a lifetime deal, that's a fact.
Secondly, you are not going to sell many codes. So you generate no income. Why not change it and generate a lot of money but also exposure and awareness.
You are not selling a physical item, sure you record the videos, but the same applies to every deal on AppSumo - someone has created it. If you gave away something like this you haven't lost the item - you still own it and can sell as many as people will purchase. People are simply not going to pay this for your 'deal' unless it is exactly what they need just now.
Here's an example: I am not going to go to your website and buy into what you are selling. I create videos, but I just don't need what you are selling. The end. No sale to me.
However, if this was a lifetime deal where I got an amazing offer I would absolutely buy it, even though i don't need it and I probably will barely use it. Hands up all the Sumo-lings who have purchased great deals on here but never even logged in once they have used their codes.
So you would sell a product and make money. It's not as if you are discounting something that we were all going to buy anyway, the majority here are not your customers, but if the price was right and it was an actual lifetime deal then many of us would buy it 'just in case we need it one day'. Which we won't.
Again - if you give away something digital you haven't lost money if the person was never going to buy it in the first place. if you heavily discount something for someone who is simply not your customer then you have actually made a profit where you would have made nothing if you had kept it as it is with the so-called lifetime deal.
It's your service, you do as you like, but the lack of reviews indicates a lack of sales in my opinion and the amount of criticism is indicative that you have simply got this wrong.
Woe unto the business owners that won't listen to their customers...especially when they are telling you HOW to take their money. 😂
I noticed in all your replies you keep using the word PREMIUM like it makes a difference. I don’t think it matters much and your low sales will reflect that. If AppSumo were a forum for videographers we might appreciate your offer of "premium" content more. Instead, we are entrepreneurs, business owners and agency managers, which makes having MORE content available for different types of projects a priority over the low count your premium plan presents.
ProVideo, you should actually read the comments and Reviews (instead of just addressing them)...Most would’ve been happy with a download limit of 10 videos a day of your "basic" content. NOT 10 videos total...you just set yourself up for the same complaints as the previous Deposit Photos deal (who might still do ok because of their established brand recognition on AppSumo).
If you're concerned about a "run on the bank", how many days do you think that would go on? I'll answer for you: Not many for most users, if any at all.
Consider this: If this was truly a Lifetime deal, you could literally be sitting on $400k in sales instead of $4k and you'd have a much larger audience to sell your "premium" footage in the future.
I don't know the details of your deal with AppSumo but if it's anything like Groupon your goal should be to get as BIG of a push from AppSumo's list and then get them off AppSumo as QUICKLY as possible - unless you enjoy receiving 50% of the gross. Simply doubling the DP video deal isn't the best strategy for *this* market right now.
By creating a deal as previously described (a REAL lifetime deal with unlimited downloads with daily/monthly limits and a discount on premium content) you would get a VERY nice bump on your financial statement AND live to sell another day, which should be your goal! This would also allow ProVideo to continually offer an “AppSumo Deal” to people who buy the “premium” content later WITHOUT AppSumo in the middle. For instance if a buyer got multiple stacks to reach a discount of 50% their premium video would cost $20, which ProVideo would have NO AppSumo commission on. That’s a much better deal for you than splitting with AppSumo. This would be ongoing along with a MICH HIGHER infusion of upfront cash and you’d would still be able to find “Your” Buyer for the premium content you want to sell without limiting your fullest potential audience. Plus, there would be a LOT more goodwill from the AppSumo buyers who would be willing to promote your service.
We know (from your website) you have the ability to offer unlimited downloads on basic content and we know based on past experience you aren’t likely to come back to AppSumo later with a better deal. So, the time is now.
You won’t be the first or last to make adjustments after listening to buyers here and there will be no honor lost in higher sales.
Q: I cannot find any videos mother feeding a baby or videos with babies.
You say that the benefit here over having a subscription is that one will have access to the premium videos. But *NOT* the 4k, 5k, 6k videos.
Then, you go on to boast about providing access to videos done with your special Hollywood cameras.
Here's the thing... I can't find squat that is only HD and uses those cameras. In fact, it looks like the vast majority of the "Premium" content is higher resolution than 1080, which makes it inaccessible to those taking you up on this deal.
You have some amazing videos, I'll grant you that. That said, this deal appears to be all about getting exposure and has little to do with actually providing a true value. Without the ultra resolutions it's basically worthless from what I can tell.
Can you point us to a "Premium" library that is only HD? I couldn't find one using the search selectors. It consistently put ultra rez videos in the results, even when selecting HD. And what about R3D content? Is there ANY that is HD only? I couldn't find it if there was.
Just wanted to update this. I assumed that the videos with the 4K, 5K, and 6K icons on them meant that is what was available. Have since discovered that HD is also available if one clicks on them.
Might be a good idea to add icons for all applicable resolutions to the preview in search. It threw me, so it has to be confusing other people.
Knowing this makes the deal a little better. There are some very good videos available, and the price you're asking isn't terribly expensive. Not what Sumolings are used to, but whatever.

My issue is I think all sumolings want to create marketing video's and your licensing arrangements are opaque. You say simple royalty free licensing.
Do you have any?

Q: This deal doesn't make any sense.
