Purchased for Privacy

More and more people are becoming wary of sharing their private documents and information with cloud models, as companies like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini have been caught using user data for training, storage, and sharing with governments without user consent. Data is valuable to these companies because they can profile us and sell ads. For those like me who value privacy, it is great to see a tool like Remio that gives users the option to use cloud models or fully local models for 100% privacy. I asked a couple of questions, and the founder answered them all and has not ignored anyone, which is great to see.

I have been testing Remio, and it has been great so far. I connected my LM Studio Mistral 14b and Qwen 3.5 local models, and it has mostly been a smooth experience. The models can answer my questions or retrieve specific documents or information offline, without relying on any cloud model. I have noticed that with local models, you sometimes need to be more specific about which folder to use so it accesses the correct location. I have encountered some small bugs where the model does not find the document it needs to answer me, but I think this is because I need to be more specific. I do not use Chrome as my browser for privacy reasons. Chrome is one of the worst browsers for protecting privacy, as it tracks your location, IP, history, logins, and more, which I do not like. Instead, I use Firefox and LibreWolf, so I cannot use the Chrome extension currently offered. I hope they can add a Firefox extension for users who do not want to use Chrome for similar reasons.

Other updates I would like to see:
1. More prompts/bigger prompt library added by their team, and an option to save the AI response I get as a prompt. Right now, I can only save what I write as a question or have to create a separate note to save a prompt.
2. A prompt improver button based on what we write, whether using local LLM or cloud LLM.
3. Notes are all mixed up in one place which can be pretty overwhelming especially if you have hundreds overtime its impossible to go through them so it would be helpful if they had an option to organise these notes into folder or sub folders we can create and drage or move the notes to for better organization.
4. AI slides with an option for local LLMs, where there are templates to select and the local model fills out the template, instead of only a cloud LLM option. There is plenty of data and information in a slide generator that I would not want a cloud model to access when creating slides, for example customer names, medical information, or banking and finance details, where a local LLM is safer for this type of data processing.
5. A dark mode option, as the tool is very bright on the eyes.
6. An option to receive webhook information into Remio for saving data from external tools.
7. Finally, I would like to see a web search option for local LLMs that uses DuckDuckGo to keep searches anonymous and private, as it seems web search only works with cloud models. For example, LM Studio already has this function embedded, so I am sure it is not complicated to add DuckDuckGo or web search functionality for local LLM models in Remio.

Overall, I am happy with the tool so far! Great idea and great tool by the founder!

Hi! Thank you so much for this incredibly detailed and thoughtful review, it means a lot to us! 🙏
We're glad the local model experience with LM Studio has been mostly smooth. Your note about being more specific with folder retrieval is accurate, this is largely due to the limited context window of local models.

Regarding local LLMs, our architecture fully supports them, but the quality of results depends on the model's capabilities. Current local models have fewer parameters, which is why we also offer professional cloud API options for better output quality. Our vision is that one day local models will match the capability of GPT-5 or Gemini — we hope that day comes soon! 👀

All your feature suggestions have been noted for the team:
1. Firefox extension: not immediate, but we'll prioritize it as we grow
2. Prompt library & improver: great ideas, noted!
3. Note organization: we already have a Collections feature that works similarly, give it a try!
4. Folder: folder structure is something we'll evaluate further
5. Local LLM slides: we understand the privacy concern, but unfortunately current local models with smaller parameter counts are not yet capable of handling this type of task effectively
6. Dark mode: coming!
7. Webhook & DuckDuckGo search: both planned for our upcoming agent version

Thanks again for being such a thoughtful early supporter, reviews like yours genuinely shape where we take remio.
