Not quite a 5 Taco Experience
🌮 Let me start off by saying I really like the visuals, presentation style and breakout rooms (A.K.A tables) that Remo brings to the whole virtual venue experience. I think my favorite part of the testing was just seeing the optics. TDLR: it's a nice to have virtual event platform and possibly a heavy hitter in the future.
The possibilities are endless.
For those of us who are designers that aren't afraid of using Adobe Illustrator or Sketch it's easier to get to those possibilities. However, if you plan on using Figma, Inkscape and/or Adobe Photoshop - that's a no no. Remo asks you avoid using those programs to design your event floor plan since they cause problems with their layouts.
No design skills? No problem. Just drop a couple hundred to several hundred dollars on a floor plan at Remo's floor plan marketplace. Be prepared to pay anywhere from $50-$899 on the ready-made floor plans from the marketplace...add even more to customize the floor plans even further. 💔
🌮The upside to this is that Remo already has a lot of premade designs that are free to choose from. So you have a nice jumping off point. They also take time to tell you (text) and show you (video) how to make a custom floor plan using Adobe Illustrator or Sketch if you are feeling brave or have time to kill.
Setting up the event went ok.
It's pretty easy to just choose your layout...but when you get to ticketing, like others already stated, it's convoluted and you have to fill out a form and reach out to support just to get that set up. 💔
FYI -Some of the event set up won't let you edit until your event is published.
I thought I read somewhere in the reviews where someone was wanting music in the waiting room. There actually is music. You can't choose the music yourself...but it's a basic elevator/waiting room vibe, so that was a nice surprise.
However if you want some soft playing background music for your event, that's a no go. You could try and rig it up using the content popup, but it's a tacky hack at best...and event-goers will probably close-out the popup.
That leads to me another one of my pet peeves with the Remo platform - the content popup. While I LOVE the idea of it. It's too easily waved away by event goers. If I have an important visual message or sponsored content - an attendee can just close it out without a second thought. And POOF it's gone - never to be seen again, unless I tee it up again. 💔
To be fair, Remo isn't alone in this. Go Brunch and others make it easy to close out of the pop-ups. Maybe letting the admins set how long it has to show before an attendee can close it could be a nice compromise.
Also a BIG NO NO for me were the links all under the attendee's profile.
Remo...really? It's soft sell after soft sell! Half of the links will take your attendee out of the event!
If you are a serious event organizer or just someone who wants to keep your attendee IN the event...I'd seriously take a look at this.
https://app.screencast.com/NWQ2COeWWYwME
💔The FIRST link under the profile picture is asking the attendee to plan their own event using Remo.
💔 The second link takes them to their events...again away from the event they are in to a list of one or more events they may have been invited to on the Remo platform.
💔 Then there is organization settings. Again, taking them out of the event.
The audio/visual testing keeps the attendee in the event (thank goodness)
And the test my gear opens up another tab, but doesn't ask the attendee to leave.
💔 THEN there is even more branded Remo articles and video tutorials as if the modest help icon that brings up
💔 a branded chat widget isn't enough.
The screenshot shows the major difference of how GoBrunch handles soft selling and how Remo does it.
💔 Another issue - I have tier three that supposed to be white-labeled.
My domain shows that it was set up and verified, however live.remo.co is the link I was given for my events. (I will reach out to support)
🌮I do love that the Remo platform asks you if you want to extend your time 30 more minutes if you are coming up to the end of your event (provided it's not more than your allotted time plan time).
All in all it was an okay experience. The soft selling during my event really was a downer.
I also agree with others - the platform is a bit restrictive and hard to customize.
It would be nice if it actually provided agency settings. I can't really see myself offering this to my clients at this time. I didn't see a way to adjust colors and no true white labeling/branding. 💔
I'm not sure if I'll be keeping the tier 3 since I have Go Brunch and other platforms that are more flexible, don't brand drop everywhere and offer better agency options. Especially if I have to 'hack' Remo to get what I need, when I can just hack the others.
The sticking point so far for me is the outstanding customer service Remo provides so far. 🌮

May 9, 2024Hi Mz_Platinum,
Thank you for this detailed review and feedback. We are glad you had a great experience in your test event; regarding the experience of being an Event Host or a Guest on a virtual events platform, we are trying our best to balance both these experiences cause being an Event Host, you need loads of tools, information, and features to ensure your attendees have a great experience while you execute your event goals and objectives; while being a guest you need easy access, and less check-ins (pre and post event) for a great experience, so we are finding the right balance here to ensure that guest stay longer.
Regarding the white label, yes, we have received great feedback from the AppSumo Community. We are working on a fix that will sort out a few areas where you see Remo branding, and soon, your event will have a complete rebrand.
Again, thank you for this detailed feedback; I will discuss it with my engineers and product team to improve Remo to meet our customers' needs.
