Screenbolt - all I need for MacOS screen capture !
I am not a professional content creator, but I frequently need reliable screen capture software for documentation. While macOS includes the native QuickTime Player for this purpose, the workflow is highly inefficient. Out of the box, Apple does not allow the recording of internal system audio. To capture app sounds, you must install and manually route a third-party audio driver like BlackHole. Furthermore, QuickTime generates massive .mov files that require time-consuming manual compression into smaller formats. For simple documentation, this entire process is far too tedious.
This is where Screen Bolt changes the game. It completely bypasses Apple's audio limitations by capturing system sound natively—no messy third-party plugins or virtual drivers required. Even better, it solves the file size headache. Instead of dumping massive, uncompressed files onto my drive, it exports clean, optimized MP4s that are immediately ready to share.
In addition Screenbolt includes a basic video editor with and a built-in privacy blur feature, which in itself is a great feature, and making it incredibly easy to quickly obscure sensitive user data or passwords. It eliminates much of the tedious post-processing, transforming a multi-step task into a couple clicks.
Another major advantage of Screenbolt is that processes occur locally on your machine, eliminating the need for cloud uploads. This is also a significant benefit for privacy. From what I understand, Screenbolt connects to "api.polar" at startup, which appears to be related to license verification.
Priced at $19, Screenbolt LTD offers great value without the need for expensive subscription plans. At this price point, it easily earns a perfect 5 Tacos from me—making screen capture effortless and saving me time. I almost forgot, yes screenbolt can be activated across 5 devices !

- BTW, I deleted the question regarding permissions. May you share some words about permissions , once more for all of us. Including the keystroke permission I mentioned before.
- Maybe add some CleanShot X screenshot features and maybe OCR in future updates. That would make Screenbolt even more awesome.
Thank you.

Jul 22, 2026Hey,
Thanks for the 5 tacos! 🌮 We really appreciate it.
Similar to other screen recording apps on macOS, Screenbolt requires a few system permissions to work properly. These include Screen Recording, Accessibility, Input Monitoring (Keyboard), and a couple of other standard macOS permissions.
Regarding the Keyboard/Input Monitoring permission specifically: it's only used for our Keystrokes feature, which lets Screenbolt detect and display the keys you press (and optionally add keyboard sounds) while recording. We do not record or store your keystrokes - it's simply used in real time to power that feature. Also our all works totally offline no data is sent to the server.
If you don't plan to use the Keystrokes feature, you can simply leave that permission disabled. 😊
Hope this clears things up! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
