I don't know what NX modeling Vs drafting mode is, but if you can export files in one of our supported file formats, there should be no compatibility issues. You can check the list of our supported file formats for import and export here: https://www.selfcad.com/faq/other#what-file-formats-can-i-export-or-import-to-selfcad
As for creating 2D views, no, there is no option to automatically generate 2D views, and the same goes for automatically calculating and displaying the dimensions. You'd have to do it all by hand.
I purchased a seat to review. Looking at the tutorials, its seems to be a lot of generic size builds. The 3D models also seem very faceted in the end. Can you build precision models with this? Can you have extremely smooth geometry generated?
Im used to SolidWorks. We sketch complex 2D sketches with fully dimensioned and constrained relations. IE 2 lines are parallel to each other etc. Can you do this?
Are there any detailed training videos covering high precision modeling, that you can recommend?
Im considering buying a 2nd tier, but want to understand its capabilities better. Thanks

A: I can generate smooth objects by just increasing the number of segments when creating the object.
As for drawing, SelfCAD is not parametric software, but we have plenty of options to measure everything. The most basic option is to manually enter the size and the angle into the text boxes on the bottom left side of the workspace when you draw.
You can also customize the precision settings to customize options such as snap or minimum step and angle size. You can also use the symmetry option to draw objects in parallel.
Here's a tutorial that showcases the precision settings described above. https://www.selfcad.com/tutorials/5ak5y1xd1z15263403130105xn2n5by7ys2s
We have some. I think they will love this one: https://www.selfcad.com/tutorials/1s3t63r191s5g3e4h45712j4x1v2p5l406m6
There's also this one here. More complex than the previous one, but it shows a few more designing options: https://www.selfcad.com/tutorials/4d1q296e3g1e6f6g24s3c726z6m2p39e4m2b
Q: Could we use this to upload STL’s and view and animate them.
Slice them.
Also wondering about ways to market them. I know it integrates with mmfactory. Can I also use it to integrate with another platform.
I saw it mentioned you guys are working on a way to embed show them. Would that future tool be included in this plan.

A: Hey,
Yes, you can import files to SelfCAD and Animate and Slice them.
About marketing, if you can upload the objects to other websites, then you're free to do so, as you're the sole owner of everything you design in SelfCAD.
And yes, this and every other update will be accessible to you when you purchase this plan.
Q: hi,
do you provide 3D viewer with embed code for website like wordpress?

Igor_SelfCAD
May 15, 2024
A: Hi,
Right now, no.
We plan to add the option to embed objects in the future, but for now, you can export objects in GLTF or GLB file format and showcase them similarly to the preview on SM. Or, you could export animated objects and showcase them as GIFs.
I especially like that the tools don't seem too complicated to use.
I just wanted to ask a few questions about whether or not it contains certain features. My questions are these:
1) What file formats can we export from this program?
2) Can the 3D files that we create be imported into Blender as they are? Would they be compatible with other 3D programs like Blender?
3) Can we put multiple 3D objects together to create a scene?
4) Can we apply a filter to that scene to create a lineart effect? If yes, can we export a 2D image of that lineart with transparency preserved? I would like to export a flat image with the lineart, so I can use it in a digital painting program to create an illustration from it.
5) Are there any filters that create a cartoony look by adding lineart and cartoon shading to the 3D scene? If yes, can we export a flat image with the cartoony filter applied, and also with transparency preserved for any parts of the image that aren't colored?
6) If we decide to create models for 3D printing, precision can be important. So, are there any tools for getting precise measurements when we're modeling something? Is there a way to measure 3D objects in millimeters, centimeters, inches, or just some way that we can get mathematical precision with our measurements? Although many designs won't really need this kind of precision, I think it would be useful for getting the exact proportions that we need when we're trying to create a functional 3D model for printing.
My main interest is to use this program for artistic purposes, but I'd also definitely love to create more technical designs in order to explore the aspect of 3D printing.
Thank you!

A: Glad you like it :)
Now, in order:
Here's the list of supported file formats: https://www.selfcad.com/faq/other#what-file-formats-can-i-export-or-import-to-selfcad As long as the exported file format is supported by the other software, there should be no issues. Yes, you can. We have the Render tool for that. I think you can. You'd have to tweak settings in the Renderer and then save it as an image. Same as above. We have. You can switch between units in mm and inches, and we also have quite a few precision options. For example, in Drawing, you can measure the length and angle of each line. Beyond that, we have tools to Snap and Align objects to either other objects or specific positions in the workspace, and the Measurement tool to measure and resize objects. Hope it answers all your questions!
I am glad that there are some render settings for getting more artistic effects, such as the lineart effect.
I will also check to see what kind of cartoon coloring effect might be possible with the render settings. I'm definitely interested in the creative possibilities of turning 3D scenes into lineart & toon shading.
I wish the export settings for the 2D images would be as flexible as possible. Exporting high quality images would be great, but also more advanced export options can be very useful, such as exporting in PSD, where the lineart & coloring would be separated into different layers. This would make it even easier for 2D renderings to be edited in a much more flexible way.
Whether or not features like these are possible in SelfCAD, I still definitely think it's a very interesting program that I'd love to try working with. It seems to have some great tools and the modeling process looks straightforward, compared to other 3D programs like Blender.
Let me know how it goes! I don't do much rendering myself, and I'm curious about what you'll be able to achieve.
As for the different file formats, unfortunately, our rendering engine cannot export contours separately. The only thing it could do is create irradiance contours.

A: Hello,
It's impossible to say how our application differs from every other software on the market. Each one is different in some way, and Fusion, for example, allows users to run simulations.
What SelfCAD offers is a variety of design options. You can create manifold outputs and print your designs (we have an inbuilt slicer), you can draw, you can sculpt, you can render, and you can animate.
Are you looking for a specific tool or feature? It would make it easier for me to answer that way.

hi, thanks for reply, I know that video but I menat some thing in the real world with color, like a real food dish for example with pasta. kind regards
You cannot convert objects with color, so you'd have to do all coloring manually once you convert the image. Have a look at this video. It shows a few tips for coloring objects created with Image to 3D. https://youtu.be/EK_Z264XAQo
It says that we can have up to 50 users with this tier. How exactly does this work? How will each user sign in? Will they have separate accounts from me?
Is there a way for two or more users to collaborate with each other in real time on a project? I'm curious if it's possible for two people to build a single 3D model together, by both working on it at the same time.
If I buy License Tier 1, can I switch to License Tier 2 later? I may want to switch to Tier 2 if I decide that I like the program after trying it and I want the option with more users. But I'm not sure if there's a way to switch from one tier to another after making the purchase. If I switch from License Tier 1 to License Tier 2, would I just pay the remaining amount or would I have to buy it again?

A: After purchasing Tier 2, you will have to set up your Organization, which requires a name and a unique code. The code is more important, as each user will have to type it in during login.
Once it's done, you can start creating users. You are the one who sets up their logins and passwords, so you can always take their account away from them. So yes, they will have separate accounts.
There's no way for two or more people to work on the same project simultaneously.
And yes, you can always upgrade to Tier 2. You'll find the option on the My Subscription page where you can change your plan. You will have to pay the difference, but you won't have to make a completely new purchase.
SelfCAD is great for furniture design and spatial carvings. It lacks support for CNC exporting, but there are plenty of file converters online where you can make your files compatible with CNC.
