Q: Is this a replacement for sketchup?

Any plans to accept dwg in the future? And is 1 license ok to use on web alongside download for switching between max and iPad on the go etc?

A: Great questions.

To answer the first one, SketchUp has an advantage when it comes to Components Library, but SelfCAD offers many more design options. With SelfCAD, you can create manifold outputs, which you can't do in SketchUp. So in other words, you can easily 3D print what you design in SelfCAD, but it's much more difficult in SketchUp.

As for designing capabilities, SelfCAD's 3D Sketch, Edit Details, and Measurement tools alone cover almost everything you can do in SketchUp while offering many more design options unavailable in SketchUp.

On top of that, our users tell us that you need to purchase a handful of plugins to be able to accomplish in SketchUp what you can do in SelfCAD with just a subscription.

So yes, I think SelfCad is a great replacement for SketchUp unless you really can't do without the Components Library.

As for your second question, yes, we do plan to add support for DWG, but we do not have a set timeline yet. For now, you can Import STEP/STP files for 3D and SVG for 2D sketches. You can check the full list of supported file formats at the following link: https://www.selfcad.com/faq/other#what-file-formats-can-i-export-or-import-to-selfcad

The answer to the last question is yes. Please, check the following link for a more detailed answer: https://appsumo.com/products/selfcad/questions/hello-what-is-user-tiers-1-give-acces-927055/#927201

Thanks.
So just to clarify that unlike sketchup, I will have to source models elsewhere and import them manually as there is no built in model library?

Can I import my own materials from jpg etc to place onto a wall? That’s something I have been missing out on with sketchup free version.

The answer to the first question is simply yes.

I'm not exactly sure what the second question is about. Is it a question about adding textures? If so, then yes, you can add your own images to use as textures.

There is also another option that fits your question, and it's the Reference Image. It allows you to import an image to the scene and use it as a, well, reference for your design.
