Q: I’m not sure what a canonical tag and when to use the setting?
Can you explain this a little more? Also, if I use it does that mean the page won’t index?

A canonical tag is an HTML element used to prevent duplicate content issues by specifying the "preferred" version of a webpage. It helps search engines understand which URL should be considered the authoritative source for a given piece of content.
Depending on your theme or other SEO plugins, those might set the canonical tag incorrectly. By enabling the canonical tag in the SEO Generator settings, you are ensured a canonical tag with the correct url to the generated page is added to your pages.
Without your pages can still be indexed by Google, but this definitely helps to improve your odds to have as many pages indexed as possible. Be sure to disable any other canonical tags in your theme or SEO plugins settings to avoid more than one canonical tags in your pages.
