Q: Huh?

So it is coming soon, then it comes live - goes within 48hrs (no warning) and it isn't coming back?

I have to say - this tactic just puts me off buying anything you make if this is how you 'tease' products. Weird.

Q: Is this lifetime sub going to be offered again this year?

In the comments below, you stated this was an annual thing. It looks like it was around October or November of 2021. Will this be happening again around that time? Thank you kindly.

Q: Hey, awesome Sumo-ling community!

This is Son with SimpleLogin!

SimpleLogin helps you protect your online identity (think VPN for email) and control your inbox. With SimpleLogin, you can create a unique email address (called "alias") for every service. You can just disable an alias if it receives spam. When using your personal email address everywhere, it becomes your online identity and advertisers can easily track you. With aliases, they will have a harder time to follow you.

Emails sent to an alias are forwarded to your inbox. You can reply to an email as usual: the response will be sent from your alias, keeping your real mailbox hidden. You can also send emails from an alias to a contact.

FAQ:

1. Can I use the lifetime deal if I already have a premium subscription?

Absolutely. Please note that the payment for the current subscription isn't refunded.

2. How is SimpleLogin different compared to other email alias services?

We created SimpleLogin because we couldn't find any service:
- that's 100% open source. Never trust your emails with a black box.
- that has no ads, no tracker. We never put ads in your emails to push you to upgrade.
- where you can easily reply to emails or send emails from an alias.
- that supports unlimited bandwidth, unlimited number of emails.
- that's available on all platforms (mobile, web, browser extension)
- that supports security features like WebAuthn (Yubikey), TOTP and PGP.

3. I can use my plus sign (+) trick to create unlimited email address, why do I need SimpleLogin?

Though practical, this trick has some downsides:

- Using + trick doesn't protect your privacy: one can easily remove the + part to have your real email. If your + address appears in the data breach, your real address is in the hands of spammers too. You could check whether your email is leaked using website like https://haveibeenpwned.com
- By removing the + part, advertisers can link these + addresses together to have your browsing history.
- You cannot reply from the + address: your real email will appear as the sender.
- The + trick is well-known and some websites don't allow sign-ups with email addresses that contain +.

More details can be found in our article about the plus sign trick on https://simplelogin.io/blog/email-alias-vs-plus-sign/

4. What happens if SimpleLogin is gone?

This is probably the hardest question that a company has to answer :).

As we are using SimpleLogin on a daily basis, for both our personal and professional usage, in the worst case, we will close registrations for new users so SimpleLogin can only be used by existing users.

If all this is still not enough, you can also run a SimpleLogin instance yourself as SimpleLogin code is open-source and we give detailed instructions on how to run it.

If you have any other question, please consult our FAQ page at
https://simplelogin.io/faq/ or reach out to us at appsumo@simplelogin.io (yes this is also an alias)

Cheers!
Son.

Q: This service is used to abuse other services.

Their user support is unwilling to block the offending users, and recommended me to just fend for myself. So I just shadow blocked their domains. Other companies may follow similar practice, so be warned.

Q: Hi and congrats for being on AS!

The tool looks amazing.
I have a question, we do have already an MX server that manages our emails, so we have for example our "main" email info@ourdomain.com
if we set up our DNS with your MX servers we will "lose" access to our IMAP and servers email. So in theory, if we want to use your server we have to make a backup by downloading the emails or how to work it out? A bit confused, sorry.
If I well understood, we can instead set the MX and DNS so every email that arrives at our "custom" new email like info@ourdomain.com will forward messages to myemail@gmail.com or anywhere I want.
Emails are being forwarded, so the "space" on the mailboxes in the space on the "destination" email, again, am I right?
Am I missing something? Which is the best way to "transition" from an existing email to your service?
Regards
Fab

A: Hey I learnt that our support has answered your question per mail. Here's the answer for those who are interested :)

> if we set up our DNS with your MX servers we will "lose" access to our IMAP and servers email. So in theory, if we want to use your server we have to make a backup by downloading the emails or how to work it out? A bit confused, sorry.

Yes unfortunately you need to download the existing emails in this case …

> If I well understood, we can instead set the MX and DNS so every email that arrives at our "custom" new email like info@ourdomain.com will forward messages to myemail@gmail.com or anywhere I want.

Yes with SimpleLogin, you need a real mailbox (Gmail, Outlook, etc) behind to receive and send the emails. SimpleLogin doesn’t store emails.

> Emails are being forwarded, so the "space" on the mailboxes in the space on the "destination" email, again, am I right?

By "space", are you referring to email storage limit? In this case the answer is yes :)

Q: What is the difference between SimpleLogin vs a custom domain that catch-all email address?

A: Great question! Some differences between SimpleLogin and a catch-all domain:

- Better experiences: you can easily create a new alias in SimpleLogin everywhere.
- You can easily reply to a forwarded email or send an email from your alias. Most catch-all domain doesn't provide this.
- SimpleLogin supports multiple mailboxes which isn't the case for most catch-all domain provided by ISP
- SimpleLogin supports PGP
- You have a better control over your domain with the new SimpleLogin "Auto Create" feature (basically a regex based rules for auto-creating aliases)

A: Hi SimpleLogin isn't a marketing email service like MailChimp so even you can send out emails easily in SimpleLogin, it isn't designed to send emails in bulk. Hope that answers the question :).

Q: Do you plan on releasing a better plan, and is that why you released this plan to sell more of it before you ...

release the better and more expensive plan? Also are you planning on finding a solution so that we can be sure you dont read the unencrypted emails that route through your servers?

A: Hi this is the answer gave out below :). The username/directory feature is a way to create aliases on the fly. For example, says you have a directory called "my_dir", you can just use my_dir/anything@simplelogin.co as email address and it will be automatically created the first time it receives an email.

More info about directory can be found on https://simplelogin.io/blog/alias-directory/.

We are also releasing a similar feature in beta called "subdomain" that's easier to use. This feature should be released tomorrow :)

A: Hi we run a spam/virus check before sending the email to your mailbox so if the file turns out to be a virus, the email would probably be blocked. Even if it isn't, it will be refused by your mailbox service anyway. Hope that answers the question :).

Q: Hi!

Finally, an LTD for SimpleLogin! Congrats on this launch! Got a few Q's:
1. Can we have the feature to organize our aliases by tags, folders, and subfolders?
2. Can we have the feature to remove trackers from emails before forwarding them?
3. Can we forward emails to 2 or more mailboxes?

A: Thanks!

1) We don't have a way to organize aliases by tags, folders yet but this is one of the most requested features and we'll get into it soon. You can track its progress on https://github.com/simple-login/app/discussions/398

2) Same as the previous feature, this one is in discussion and can be tracked on https://github.com/simple-login/app/discussions/542

3) Yes! You can add other mailboxes on the Mailboxes page on https://app.simplelogin.io/dashboard/mailbox

Q: Is there a ratio or research of the percentage (%) that will go to spam?

A: We don't have the exact spam/inbox ratio but here is our spam rate number for the last 7 days according to Google Postmaster:

Nov 5, 2021 0.0%
Nov 6, 2021 0.0%
Nov 7, 2021 0.1%
Nov 8, 2021 0.0%
Nov 9, 2021 0.0%
Nov 10, 2021 0.0%

As SimpleLogin implement all the email best practices like SPF, DKIM, DMARC, almost 100% of our emails arrive in the Inbox. You can also set up a filter to make sure all SimpleLogin emails always arrive in the Inbox, we have a small guide on how to do it on https://simplelogin.io/docs/getting-started/troubleshooting/

A: We have a detailed comparison with Burner Mail on https://simplelogin.io/blog/vs-burner-mail/

About Paced Email, its goal is to deliver emails in bulk and is more suited for receiving newsletters. SimpleLogin provides rather an alternative to our “classic” email address.

The differences between Burner Mail and SimpleLogin can apply to Paced Email as well. Concretely:

- Open Source vs Proprietary: SimpleLogin code is open source. Emails can contain personal, sensitive information, and therefore open-source email services should be preferred over closed-source ones. Paced Email code is proprietary.

- Able to send emails from alias: in Paced Email, you need to go to the web UI to compose an email. Besides an inefficient interface compared to a standard email client, the emails aren’t stored in your mailbox and you can’t search for them conveniently. Paced Email also doesn’t support replying to a forwarded email from your email client.

- Security features like PGP, WebAuthn (Yubikey)

- HaveIBeenPwned integration

- No Ads, no tracking

Let me know if this answers your question :)
