Tremendous Value
This SitePoint membership has paid for itself already. It feels like I bought a personal website development library!
I've always struggled to use the code editor Sublime Text, even though I've been using it for 15 years and so many people praise it. When I saw a book in SitePoint's library about Visual Studio Code, I became curious because I had never heard about it before; only the original Visual Studio, which was too bulky for my website coding needs.
As I read through the book and followed each step, I had continual 'aha!' moments, as VS Code helped me better understand how to structure my sites, think about code, use source control (Git), add extensions, and debug my files. These are the things that I knew I should have been doing for years, but could never figure out how to do in Sublime on account of it being so text-based, rather than a combination of verbal and visual.
Plus, reading tutorials online was always a tiny piece here or there, and half the time the instructions never worked. Having a complete guide from beginning to end proved essential to my learning. And because it's a digital book, I can copy and paste into the editor, search for extensions, run terminal commands, or search online for more info with a click. Much easier than a physical book. And it's better than Lynda.com (LinkedIn Learning), because it's so website developer focused, and I can read and follow at my own pace.
Thanks to SitePoint, I've been able to improve my web development skills. I feel optimistic about coding again. I'm eager to dive into their other books, video courses, and learning pathways!
