I'm a full-time photographer (weddings, portraits and corporate photography) and have looked at many client galleries in the past - paid, free, self-hosted, you name it. The main problem with self-hosted galleries is that almost none of them look nice. The ones that do have a focus on beauty & usability, like the solution offered my Synology on ther NAS, still rely on you hosting them but they are also somewhat limited in terms of design. I've tried some paid solutions from market leaders and while some of the players look realy sleak - most of them will set you back hundreds of dollars in the long term.
Honestly, this deal, even at Tier 1, is pretty awesome and I think that the 200 GB limit on Tier 2 is more than enough. I never upload RAW files (why would I?) so this gives enough room for hundreds of client galleries. If you need to delivery photos to your clients via gallery, go for it. To be honest, there isn't much to complain about except that I cannot use the Portfolio site because it does not comply to the German regulation (GDPR/DSGVO). In essence, when a site uses google fonts without user consent, it violates the law. Unfortunately, slickpic makes heavy use of google fonts (with no option of replacing them via custom CSS) as well as google analytics (the scripts load even if you haven't specified an ID). I haven't found an option to activate a cookie consent popup or to deactivate analytics. However, I am sure that this is something the wonderful devs can work out in the future.
