I purchased the deal on Appsumo and have sent less than 100 sms in total - but I use them to send 1 automated sms from a contact form on my website when certain criteria are set - and it's triggered via Zapier.

Unfortunately, since the 60 refund period is past, they now are forcing us to pay an insane $12/mo or else we're locked out of our accounts.

I can't even log in and download my contacts - they've locked me out.

I'd like Appsumo to refund us for this bait and switch but I doubt that will happen.

Got an email today it looks like all AS customers Including me will have to pay a monthly fee of $12 a month even after I purchased this as a lifetime deal.

Very disappointing here is the email I received today.

"AppSumo customers will need to complete this registration and will be charged the monthly fee of $12 even if you bring your own number.

At the time of the AppSumo deal, regulations surrounding text messaging were different, so additional fees were not anticipated.

Please let me know if you have any other questions."

I give 1 taco for losing my money again on another bad deal.

I reached out for a refund and was told to contact AS but I'm doubtful I will get one.

I wish the Sly Brand good fortune.

Reached out twice for support to add my number to Skytext - no response. I should have known better seeing that there was never a reply to questions posed by. Sumo-lings. Requesting a refund

I am a small business owner and I have been in business for over 16 years. I have a brick and mortar business with a landline. This tool is extremely helpful for me because it allows me to reach out to prospects/clients using text messaging without sharing my personal cell phone number. This tool allowed me to link my business LANDLINE. I tested the tool by sending a simple text message with an image from inside the dashboard to my personal cell phone. Boom! Almost instantaneously, I saw the text delivered in my dashboard. I replied to the test text message and again, almost instantaneously, I saw the test reply in my dashboard. So far, so good. I’m super excited about the potential use cases for me and my business now that I have set this tool up and tested it.

I bought this as I currently use ClickSend. I've spent so far about $140 on ClickSend and was looking for an alternative. I would have gotten ShortySMS, but for the change they made to their plan obtaining a Twilio number.

That said, ShortySMS provided what I wanted:
1. LTD to a number (not necessary, but good);
2. LTD for a set amount of texts per month (necessary); and
3. Automation for scheduled texts messages (necessary).

I am a small business owner and need something that can send reminder texts for clients to pay. At most I have about 15 paying clients, which changes as soon as those clients pay. Although I have to manually input the scheduling for the automated messages, it works so I don't have to manually input every month. I can manually input the automated messages for a year and then I'm done.

Additionally, I know Clicksend has an API, but since my list for text reminders is limited to only the clients who need to pay, I have to also manually input them onto ClickSend. This is no different from SlyText.

For that reason, I will likely keep SlyText. I can also input numbers via a spreadsheet if I want to create a mass message for clients to watch my Youtube videos or read my recent blog. If SlyText or ShortySMS could integrate with SendFox, that'd be a game changer.

🌮 integrations, not as obvious, could not find them unless i add a contact or group?

Overall I hope these guys have a solid business plan for their platform alongside their other tools (saw slydial and slybroadcast) so it's a unified contact center solution?

Highly recommended if you don't have an existing SMS marketing tool in place.

I considered keeping it just for the number.

But there's really nothing I need that I cannot do with Google Voice.

As there's no way to automate sign-ups, and "wait until I manually add you to the list" isn't working for me in 2021, I will return it.

With API, this deal would be incredible. I messaged support to hear it they're planning to add it, but they explicitely said "not in the AppSumo deal."

It makes me feel the tool will stay in "as it is now" status, and I don't need it in the current status.

I am not afraid of facts. Because of that I needed more separation of business from personal . I needed a phone number that works in creating a Facebook account that allows me to make this separation so that the bans don't prevent business from happening and moving forward. SlyText helped me make this move. Google phone doesn't work for this because FB has these numbers in a block list.

I was also able to get a really easy to remember number, much better than my current number, and as I move into a new business space this is very helpful.

I do hope a phone app is in the making, but as it is, works for me.

Things that are cool:

-1:1 texting
-1:many texting
-Using Voip number like an Ooma Telo for incoming/outgoing texts

Things that are not cool:

-A marketing tool with no ability to opt-in
-No public roadmap
-No way to vote for new features
-Beth as a "customer care" representative.

Thanks for responding! However you didn't actually answer my first question - and that is if you have a roadmap - if yes, is the roadmap public?

Additionally, as a customer care representative would you mind being a little more descriptive in your response about the feature not being on the roadmap? For example, what factors go into play when making the roadmap? Do you allow customers to vote? Why isn't something so essential to a service like this on your radar?

Here's her response:

We do not have a public roadmap available at this time.

Pros:
✅ Better text rate compares with other competitors (normally others offer ~300 to ~500/month)
✅ Simple/User friendly interface
✅ Automatic keyword reply, but only able to reply text instead of MMS
✅ Ability to receive phone calls using the number they provided
✅ Zapier Integration

Cons:
🚫When forwarding the phone call, it will deduct credits, but no ways to track the credit being used
🚫The company mentioned they have an API but when I reach out to them for more information, they said you have to be on their regular subscription plan to access (very sad)
🚫Automatic keyword only work on group message, not the individual user

Overall, I still recommend stacking at least 1 code, but sad about the API they made it seems like reaching out to request for more information will be a solution but it turns out to be a waste of time.

Seems like really good software. Easy to use. However, I can't get a number in Canada. The marketing "SlyText is a web-based, online text messaging service that enables two-way communications from the web to any smartphone in the United States or Canada… and back!" isn't true for Canada :(

Without a Canadian number, my clients will have to pay service fees. And that's a deal-breaker to be sure.

I have an Ooma VOIP phone at home costing $7.40CAD a month, which is cheap.
I saw this Slytext plan and bought initially the cheapest tier and wrote them to set up my SMS using my existing phone number. I wrote into tech support at support@slytext.com.
Beth answered but had problems figuring out my carrier. They were closed on the weekend, but this morning I got an email saying everything is hooked up! It works, I wrote my parents and got replies and now writing customers as well. Since I'm saving so much on the phone, I bought the highest tier, so that should more than cover my needs.

I'm an incredibly happy Slytext customer, thanks Appsumo for bringing this to market on a Lifetime deal!

The SMS system works great with no delays. However, it has some features missing that would make this deal fantastic.

PROS:
✅ Select from 10 variable numbers for the area code you choose
✅ Call forwarder to your phone if they call the slyText number
✅ SMS and MMS works great
✅ Adding contacts is a breeze
✅ Zapier integration is good but (view CONS)
✅ Smart replies in groups
✅ Limits vs price is great

CONS:
🚫 Smart Replies system is not available in individual SMS received
🚫 Zapier could be improved with more fields like NAME and GROUP to segment
🚫 No webhooks
🚫 No option to change the number in the dashboard
🚫 Auto reply feature is limited to 1 message.

slyText is off to a good start!

I was looking for a texting service that used my browser instead of my phone. I had purchased AppSumo's ShortySMS to see if that would work but after playing with it a while I realized that it is designed primarily for sending bulk texts like Constant Contact does with newsletters.

When I saw slyText being offered today I decided to give it a try. It not only can create large groups like ShortySMS but it also let's you easily send individual texts by selecting any contact in the address book. ShortySMS has a way to go with features like this so that made slyText a winner for me.

Like ShortySMS, I can set up group texts and schedule their delivery. It also let's my users send me photos so I can easily add them to their websites and not have to get them off my phone first.

You can select your own area code to access a phone number to use from a list of numbers with that area code (no, you can't choose your own desired number, just the area code). They also provide the option of SMS forwarding to my business phone.

The UI is well designed making getting started very easy. I had my first contact entered, added to a group and texted all within five minutes.

There are both FAQ files and Videos to help get started. I haven't seen a roadmap of coming features but I would hope to see a signup form at some point. But slyText is off to a good start and I'm happy to offer them 5 well done tacos.
