Q: Hello!
I have a few questions :)
- If PayPal 'receipts' are submitted, along with the actual receipt from the vendor, would SparkReceipt be able to detect that it's for the same transaction and not record it twice (or combine the records)? E.g. Some purchases don't always give a proper receipt. So forwarding all PayPal 'receipts' could make sense, while also submitting the actual receipt.
- From my understanding, if forwarding from gmail, the forwarding address needs to confirm receipt of the first email using a verification code prior to being able to forward emails to it automatically. Are we able to verify the SparkReceipt forwarding address? E.g. If we want to make inbox rules that automatically forwards emails that match certain rules.
- Are we able to update or 're-roll' the forwarding email address? It seems that it is hardcoded with the initial name once the account is created.

Thanks for your questions. I will try to answer them as best I can:
1. If PayPal 'receipts' are submitted, along with the actual receipt from the vendor, would SparkReceipt be able to detect that it's for the same transaction and not record it twice (or combine the records)? E.g. Some purchases don't always give a proper receipt. So forwarding all PayPal 'receipts' could make sense, while also submitting the actual receipt.
I recommend that if you add the "proper receipt" later, you should upload it directly to the same expense as an additional file. The system will check for duplicates and warn about them, but it is not bulletproof, especially when the PayPal payment confirmation and the receipt are two different files. A possibility to combine them is a great idea though.
2. From my understanding, if forwarding from gmail, the forwarding address needs to confirm receipt of the first email using a verification code prior to being able to forward emails to it automatically. Are we able to verify the SparkReceipt forwarding address? E.g. If we want to make inbox rules that automatically forwards emails that match certain rules.
You are correct, in most email services you'll need to confirm the receiving address. And yes, you are able to verify the inbound email address. This is not the most elegant solution, but the confirmation email will land to your account as a PDF document with a clickable confirmation link.
3. Are we able to update or 're-roll' the forwarding email address? It seems that it is hardcoded with the initial name once the account is created.
The address does not update with the account name to prevent accidentally breaking any automations / integrations using that email address. A re-roll feature would be a great idea though, and easy to do. I will add it soon. If you'd like to change the address right now, I can generate a new one for you if you send me an email to sparkreceipt@valorbyte.com.
Best regards,
Antti
