I Hate Buzzwords
I have posted a review about Infinity in my community for all things SaaS over at pack.sapphirewolf.co about this very topic of buzzwords.
Can we stop calling everything a project management tool and call it as it is? AppSumo pitches Stackby as a Project Management Tool...it's not. Jumppl is pitched as one and it loosely is. Project Management Tools have very key aspects and features that truly allow someone to manage an entire project in a comprehensive manner - SquidHub will never allow you to do that - and that's largely fine.
This is more of what I like to call and coin a Project Organizational Tool, maybe even a Project Collaboration Tool. Can you create to-do's? Yep! Can you create meetings? Mhmm. Can you place them under a category? You bet! How about upload and attach files? Sure can do! Can you message team members and even have video calls via Jister? In the famous words of the Kool-Aid man...OHHHH YEAAAHHHHHH. (Serious kudos for this).
But sadly that's where it all ends. There's just nothing more to it. And I get it, it's part of their Simplicity first approach. I respect that. Just don't call this a Project Management Tool because it simply isn't. Will I probably get a response that says something along the lines of "How can you say that? We have X-number of users that use this for project management and love it!" - more than likely. But it doesn't mean that it *should* be used as such. As Mike said, this is more of a team collaboration tool on steroids. It's really great at what it does and I am sure you could create to-do's with links to boards in your *actual* project management tools and this can provide that void you might have elsewhere if you're looking for a serious powerhouse in team collaboration.
I'm on the fence about this tool. There's a lot left to be desired when you think "Project Management".
A known issue at the moment is that their Google validation is suspended which means no Google Calendar integration at the moment with their Calendar functionality.
It's a decent product and the support has been responsive, but for what I'm still looking for in terms of Project Management, this doesn't scratch that itch.

May 9, 2024Hi Sapphirewolf,
Thanks a lot for your nice 4 taco review as well as your feedback :)
We really appreciate that!
When thinking of a project management tool, I guess it comes down to what one think of is a project management tool, right?
- For some it would be something very simple which allows them to move the project ahead and keep everybody informed about the progress. Nothing to fancy as long as the team uses it and are happy with it...
- For others it would mean a Gantt chart. "You can't live without a Gantt chart" some would argue...
- Yet for others, it would mean Kanban. "Yes, lean/agile requires a Kanban" they would say...
- And for yet others, a project management tool would need to be incredible feature rich to support their needs. And be integrated with a lot of tools in a complex workflow.
- Some would say that a project management tool is less about tasks, more about efficient communication and overview...
- ... and it's likely completely different for those not included in the above scenarios ;)
So it really comes down to the individual user and use case, as to what people regard as a project management tool. Having worked as an IT project manager for +10 years, that's at least my experience :)
And you're right - if you're in need of lots of features, and this is a requirement for calling SquidHub a project management tool - well, then it probably doesn't apply but is more of a project organizational tool/collaboration hub as you say. We can certainly agree on that.
Regarding the Google validation. Yes, the timing isn't ideal. We know and acknowledge that. Apparently, a re-verification was requested, which has been re-submitted a few days ago. We're in close dialog with Google and try to speed up things to ensure that the verification is achieved as soon as possible. According to Google, such a verification might take 3-5 days to be processed - so please be patient and bare with us while the verification is taking place.
Hope you find this response well - and once again, thank you so much for leaving a nice 4 taco review as well as useful feedback.
Cheers,
Andreas
