What are past projects, failures, or successes you’ve had in your career?

I originally built WordPress themes back in 2012 and sold them in the Envato Markerplaces, and found some success. After releasing a handful of themes, I transitioned into building WordPress plugins. I paired this with creating websites for local clients.

I discovered page builders and found some lacking features. Because of that need, I started making addons for page builders, and was one of the first people who came out with addons for Visual Composer (now called WP Bakery). In the end, I released almost 30 addons for Visual Composer, the most successful of which was named **Parallax Backgrounds for Visual Composer**.

After some time, I decided to combine all of my addons into a single plugin called **Super Bundle**.

During that time, I was deep in page builders (Elementor had just released back then), and I decided to gather all my learnings from my existing page builder addons to create my very own page builder called Page Builder Sandwich - a play on the term “PB Sandwich”, and released it in the WordPress Plugin Directory under a freemium model.

When I caught wind that WordPress was experimenting with their own page building interface dubbed “Gutenberg”, I thought that it would drive the future of WordPress and started to get to work creating Stackable.

Stackable came out the moment Gutenberg went into public beta, and we were one of the first plugins built for the new block editor. Stackable Premium came out roughly a year after when the WordPress block editor was released publicly.

As of this writing, my old plugins with Visual Composer / WPBakery have now been sunsetted; Page Builder Sandwich was sold to a new owner, unfortunately it is no longer listed in the WordPress Plugin Directory.

What’s the origin of the idea for your product?

I came from a page builder background, and am a supporter of a block editor-approach to building websites. These are usually seen as opposites of each other, but I see some gaps with the block editor when building sites that can be addressed by solutions from page builders. I want to fill these gaps by adding the missing page builder features with Stackable into the block editor.

What problem is your product solving and how?

Stackable solves the limitations of the native WordPress Block Editor by turning it into a full-featured page builder — adding advanced workflows that utilize blocks, providing pre-made designs, and layout tools. It stands out with its Global Design System, theme style inheritance, and seamless integration into existing workflows.

What’s the #1 thing you’re looking to gain from the AppSumo campaign?

Virality. Up until recently, we have been simply providing advanced blocks for the WordPress block editor. However, we have strengthened our direction towards being an essential companion for the Block Editor for building complete sites - we’re bringing in more efficiency with styling, a global design system, and our aim is to easily fit with people’s existing workflows.

Our aim is to have people who just know the old Stackable as being just about “blocks” and new comers to get to know the new Stackable.

What are your plans with the customers, cash, and learnings from the AppSumo campaign?

We will use the funds to up our development team and developmental efforts, as well as add to our support team. We are focused on pushing Stackable towards being a complete solution - so we are continuing on (and past) our roadmap. Future plans include white labeling, fluid containers, a settings file users can commit in their repos, and a lot more.. all of which AppSumo customers will also enjoy.
