Needs Improvement: Confusing and Hard to Trust for Beginners
I’ve used many stock-picking tools, including, including Tykr, which I still find helpful. Recently, I decided to give Sterling Stock Picker a try, as it caught my attention through what seems to have been a lot of paid press releases. However, despite the marketing push, it doesn’t seem to have a large user base, which made me a bit skeptical from the start.
After using it for some time, I have mixed feelings, and there are a number of areas where this tool could significantly improve.
What I did not like and why I rated it 1/5 stars:
Video Resources Are Lacking (Lost 1st Star):
Their educational videos are not made available on more accessible public platforms like YouTube, and they’re very short, unclear, and lack detail. For someone new to stock analysis, these videos will be of little to no help. They merely feature narrated content without on-screen demonstrations, which feels more like listening to an AI chatbot rather than a helpful tutorial.
Simply put, the videos are not designed to help a beginner understand the tool.
Too Many Charts & Indicators Without Clear Guidance (Lost 2nd Star):
The platform includes many charts and indicators, which might seem like a good thing for experienced users. However, for a beginner, these features quickly feel overwhelming and, honestly, useless without sufficient explanation. Even after watching their videos, I struggled to make sense of most of the charts. It would be helpful if they simplified the interface or provided beginner-friendly tutorials.
Confusing and Contradictory Stock Advice (Lost 3rd Star):
I tested the platform using NVDA (NVIDIA) stock as an example, and this is where Sterling Stock Picker really lost credibility. The Insider Activity indicator showed that 87% of insiders were selling this stock, implying that it’s a sell. However, the "Analyst Recommendation Trends" suggested quite the opposite, with 47% of analysts recommending buying the stock, and another 12% strongly recommending it to buy. This kind of contradictory advice makes the platform feel unreliable like it’s encouraging users to gamble rather than make informed decisions.
Paid Press Releases & Lack of Transparency (Lost 4th Star):
From what I’ve observed, Sterling Stock Picker seems to rely heavily on paid press releases to generate buzz. For example, an article in Forbes that promoted the platform has since been removed, which gives me the impression that there’s a lack of credibility. This also raises questions about the authenticity of other positive reviews, like the ones on AppSumo, as they may also be incentivized or paid.
Final Thoughts:
At this point, I’m continuing to explore the platform for a few more days before deciding if I should request a refund. My initial experience with Sterling Stock Picker has been frustrating. The lack of clear instructional resources, the overwhelming and confusing charts, and the contradictory stock advice make it difficult to trust this tool.
If you’re someone new to investing and looking for accessible tools to help you learn and grow, I wouldn’t recommend Sterling Stock Picker in its current state. For now, I’m sticking to other platforms that have consistently delivered better results.
