sub-accounts with dummy names and change company name afterwards. However, if I set sub-accounts as 1X code and a client afterwards wants to use a 2X code sub-account format, can I then at that point merge two accounts into one for 40 stories??

Yes, you're right.
You can set up dummy accounts, and ask us to change organization name afterwards.
And yes, merging is no problem until 29th of August 2019 (which is the last day to redeem coupons).

If I have a brand/client that leaves me can i switch the coupon over to a different client. It would be good to be able to switch a leaving clients account back to free so they can pay to continue using storychief. also if i set up a free account for a client and the pay to upgrade it - is that considered a referral fro the 15% commission?

Yes to both questions.
Indeed, if your client goes from free to paid plan, you get a commission.
